研究室紹介
Professor Sun Ah Kim's research lab specializes in interdisciplinary neuroscience and health psychology, focusing on the neural mechanisms underlying multisensory integration—particularly visuo-haptic processing in the brain—and their implications for mental health and behavioral interventions. The lab also conducts cutting-edge bioinformatics research, developing computational tools for genomic data analysis, especially in linkage disequilibrium block detection using next-generation sequencing data. Additionally, the lab explores non-pharmacological psychological interventions, such as music-based group therapy and cognitive-behavioral approaches, to address adolescent mental health and Internet addiction. These diverse research directions converge on understanding brain-behavior relationships and improving mental well-being through neuroscience-informed, technology-driven, and human-centered solutions.

15The occipital and parietal lobes contain regions that are recruited for both visual and haptic object processing. The purpose of the present study was to characterize the underlying neural mechanisms for bimodal integration of vision and haptics in these visuo-haptic object-selective brain regions to find out whether these brain regions are sites of neuronal or areal convergence. Our sensory conditions consisted of visual-only (V), haptic-only (H), and visuo-haptic (VH), which allowed us to eval
This integrative review assesses the effectiveness of psychological interventions for reducing the severity of Internet addiction and/or Internet gaming disorder. We searched five databases, and both a narrative synthesis and meta-analyses were conducted. Five randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and six quasi-experimental studies met the inclusion criteria. The included interventions were categorized as cognitive-behavioral therapy, family-based intervention, and counseling program. A meta-analy
SUMMARY: For the analysis of high-throughput genomic data produced by next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, researchers need to identify linkage disequilibrium (LD) structure in the genome. In this work, we developed an R package gpart which provides clustering algorithms to define LD blocks or analysis units consisting of SNPs. The visualization tool in gpart can display the LD structure and gene positions for up to 20 000 SNPs in one image. The gpart functions facilitate construction
The paper presents a novel feature extraction method to improve the performance of speaker identification systems. The proposed feature has the form of a typical conventional feature, Mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC), but a flexible segmentation to reduce spectral mismatch between training and testing processes. Specifically, the length and shift size of the analysis frame are determined by a pitch synchronous method, pitch synchronous MFCC (PSMFCC). To verify the performance of the ne
PROBLEM: Traditionally, adolescent mental health in Korea has not been a prime focus for educators, health workers, and politicians, yet a majority of sampled adolescents report interpersonal sensitivity (Kim, 2003). METHOD: Thirty-five adolescent girls took part in a six-session school-based music group psychotherapy pilot intervention designed to promote relationships and improve self-control skills. FINDING: Participants identified several outcome benefits that may serve as protective factors
Abstract Internet addiction is of growing concern and college students are particularly vulnerable. This study examines the mediating effect of dysfunctional attitude on the association between psychopathology (depression and social anxiety) and Internet addiction among Korean college students. A sample of 159 college students from one university was obtained via an online survey. Participants completed a depression scale, social avoidance and distress scale, dysfunctional attitude scale, and In
We investigated the neural substrates involved in visuo-haptic neuronal convergence using an additive-factors design in combination with fMRI. Stimuli were explored under three sensory modality conditions: viewing the object through a mirror without touching (V), touching the object with eyes closed (H), or simultaneously viewing and touching the object (VH). This modality factor was crossed with a task difficulty factor, which had two levels. On the basis of an idea similar to the principle of
PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to: (a) develop a comprehensive communication course combined with a group program for improving communication skills; and (b) examine the effects of the comprehensive communication course on interpersonal communication, relationship change, self-esteem, and depression in nursing students. METHOD: The experimental group consisted of 82 nursing students, and the control group, 108 nursing students. Both groups each took communication courses from March to
Further studies with longer follow-up periods and physiological interventions are required.
Fibronectin, a matrix glycoprotein aberrantly expressed in various tumor cells, is a known candidate biomarker for the early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, we investigated whether serum fibronectin levels could predict tumor recurrence in patients with early-stage HCC after curative treatment. A total of 83 patients who showed complete response after initial curative treatment were included. The levels of serum fibronectin at baseline and 4-6 weeks after initial trea
The purpose of this study was to explore status and level of communication ability, interpersonal relationships, anxiety, and depression in Korean soldiers and identify factors that influence depression. Methods: A cross sectional study design was employed. The instruments were PCI (Primary Communication Inventory), RCS (Relationship Change Scale), STAI (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory), and CES-D (The Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale). Data were collected from 961 soldiers from G
