研究室紹介
Professor Sun-hee Choi's research lab specializes in pediatric respiratory and allergic diseases, with a focus on bronchial hyperresponsiveness, asthma phenotypes, and the immunological and clinical aspects of allergic rhinitis in young children. The lab investigates airway inflammation markers, such as eosinophils and eosinophil cationic protein, and their association with bronchoconstrictor responses to various stimuli. Additionally, the lab explores perinatal outcomes related to multiple births, particularly in the Korean population, highlighting trends in birth weight and low birth weight incidence. The research integrates clinical bronchial challenge testing with epidemiological data to improve understanding and management of pediatric respiratory conditions.

15BACKGROUND: Subjects with allergic rhinitis but no clinical evidence of asthma have greater bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR), and several factors have been implicated as its determinants. However, studies in young children are lacking. The aims of this study were to evaluate the prevalence of BHR in young children with allergic rhinitis and to investigate its risk factors. METHODS: Methacholine bronchial challenges were performed in 4- to 6-year-old nonasthmatic children with allergic rhiniti
The aim of this study was to survey multiple birth data and to analyze the recent trends of multiple births and its consequences on perinatal problems in Korea from 1991 to 2008. Data were obtained from the Korean Statistical Information Service. The total number of multiple births showed increasing trends. The multiple birth rate was maintained within less than 10.0 for the decade from 1981 to 1990. However, it increased gradually to reach 27.5 in 2008. The maternal age for multiple births was

BACKGROUND: Bronchial hyperresponsiveness is a characteristic feature of asthma, and is usually measured by bronchial challenges using direct or indirect stimuli. Blood eosinophil numbers and serum levels of eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) are considered as indirect measures of airway inflammation in asthma. The aim of this study was to investigate whether bronchial responsiveness to adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP) is more closely associated with blood eosinophil markers, compared with that t
Most guidelines for chronic urticaria (CU) in infants and children are based on limited pediatric evidence. Current evidence used to guide treatment in children is extrapolated from data focusing on older age groups. CU in children is a different and complex condition than that in adults. Furthermore, there is little published information regarding urticaria in Korean children. The aim of the present article is to review recent research on chronic childhood urticaria and improve the current unde
An association between atopy and chronic/recurrent RS, compared to acute and subacute RS, suggests a possible causal link.
This research seeks to examine the impact of tourism and local residents’ support for tourism development in a rural tourism destination in the Gangwon province, South Korea named Jeongseon. It looks at the economic, socio-cultural and environmental impact tourism and the benefits and costs to the local residents. This study used the social exchange theory as a theoretical framework. A total of 376 valid responses were collected To achieve the research’s goals, ten research hypotheses were propo
Serum levels of periostin in asthmatic children with both positive exercise and mannitol BPT were significantly greater than those in asthmatic children with both negative exercise and mannitol BPT and also greater than in healthy controls.
Purpose: There is currently no information regarding predisposing factors for chronic and recurrent rhinosinusitis (RS), although these are considered to be multifactorial in origin, and allergic diseases contribute to their pathogenesis. We evaluated the predisposing factors that may be associated with chronic and recurrent RS. Methods: In this prospective study, we examined patients with RS younger than 13 years of age, diagnosed with RS at six tertiary referral hospitals in Korea between Octo
During the perioperative period, anaphylactic reactions rarely occur. Neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) are responsible for 60-70% of perioperative anaphylactic reactions. This case, we report a case of rocuronium-induced anaphylaxis in a 3-year-old girl with no previous exposure to NMBAs. This case cautions and informs practitioners that an IgE-mediated anaphylactic reaction with rocuronium is possible even in young children with no previous exposure to NMBAs.
F ood allergy has increased in developed countries over the past 20 years and it has been estimated that food allergic reactions affect some 6~8% of children. Food allergy is common and potentially serious problem in childhood. Adverse reaction to food could be classified into four groups: IgE-mediated food allergy; non-IgE mediated food allergy; non-allergic food hypersensitivity; and symptoms falsely assumed to be due to foods. Allergic testing is moving towards established thresholds levels o
Background Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection is common in the general population and may be followed by immune dysfunction, but links with subsequent autoimmune disease remain inconclusive. Objective To estimate the association of M. pneumoniae infection with the risk of subsequent autoimmune disease. Methods This retrospective cohort study examined the medical records of South Korean children from 01/01/2002 to 31/12/2017. The exposed cohort was identified as patients hospitalized for M. pneumoni
The classical triad of abdominal pain, vomiting, and bloody stool is absent in chronic intussusception for more than 2 weeks. Here, we report a 6-year-old female with recurrent abdominal pain for 2 months. Ultrasonography of the abdomen revealed an ileocolic-type intussusception. The lesion accompanying the tight fibrous adhesion was treated by resection and ileocolic anastomosis. It was diagnosed as intussusception with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. A high index of suspicion for abdominal pain
Purpose: Methotrexate (MTX) is one of the most widely used anticancer agents, with indications and established protocols in a range of childhood and adult cancers. High dose MTX (HD-MTX) requires aggressive care to prevent toxicity. Limited inpatient conditions are forcing major changes in health care delivery patterns and decisions. We conducted a retrospective study to describe the safety, feasibility and cost-effectiveness of HD-MTX administration in the outpatient setting. Methods: Patients
