研究室紹介
Professor Sun Il Kim's research lab specializes in energy efficiency and sustainable building technologies, with a focus on improving thermal performance in building envelopes—particularly through innovative curtain wall systems and energy certification policies. The lab also conducts clinical and translational research in urology, especially on renal cell carcinoma and non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, emphasizing prognostic biomarkers and nutritional indicators for patient outcomes. Additionally, the lab contributes to dermatological oncology by validating diagnostic algorithms for early-stage cutaneous lymphoma using immunophenotypic and molecular markers. The integration of engineering solutions for energy efficiency and clinical research for urological cancers defines the lab’s multidisciplinary approach.

15The Korean government has established a national plan for the promotion of zero energy buildings to respond to climate change and energy crises. To achieve this plan, several energy efficiency policies for new and existing buildings have been developed. The Building Energy Efficiency Certification System (BEECS) aims to promote the spread of high energy-efficient buildings by evaluating and certifying building energy performance. This study discussed Korean building energy efficiency policies an
In renal tumors, small tumor size is prognostic for favorable postsurgical histopathologies such as benign tumors, low T stages, and low Fuhrman's nuclear grades. Our observations are expected to facilitate urologists to adopt function-preserving approach in the planning of surgery for small renal tumors with favorable predicted outcomes.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the treatment pattern of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer patients among urologists in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, with emphasis on compliance with important treatment guidelines. METHODS: A Web-based questionnaire survey was conceived by representative members of each country's urological oncology society and was open from June 2016 to February 2017 to each society's members. Descriptive statistics and multinomial logistic regression analysis were used. RESULTS: A tota
Recently, metal curtain wall systems have been widely used in high-rise buildings due to many advantages, including being lightweight, rapid construction, and aesthetic features. Since the metal frame may lead to lower energy performance, thermal discomfort, and condensation risk due to the high thermal conductivity, its thermal performance can be important for the improvement of the overall thermal performance of the curtain wall system, as well as the energy efficiency of the building envelope
The International Society for Cutaneous Lymphoma (ISCL) proposes a diagnostic algorithm for early mycosis fungoides (MF) that includes clinical, histological, immunophenotypical, and molecular criteria. Here, we analyzed the immunologic markers and features of T-cell clonality in 38 early MF cases and 22 non-MF cases to validate the ISCL algorithm. We found that CD5 and CD7 expression differed significantly between early MF and non-MF cases, with epidermal discordance of CD7 expression more freq
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to assess the value of a preoperative Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) for predicting the survival of patients with nonmetastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) treated with partial or radical nephrectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The medical records of 480 patients with RCC who underwent partial or radical nephrectomy at 2 institutions between June 1994 and July 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. After the exclusion of 21 patients with lymph node or dista
The issue of sustainability has become one of the major concerns among architectural professionals throughout the world. As a way of providing information, many countries have developed and distributed sustainable building guidelines. This paper aims to investigate architectural professionals’ needs and preferences with regard to sustainable building guidelines in Korea, with a specific focus on various guideline attributes. We conducted a review of existing sustainable building guidelines in ma
Yes-associated protein (YAP), an effector molecule of the Hippo signaling pathway, is expressed at high levels in cutaneous melanoma. However, the role of YAP in melanoma progression according to cellular localization is poorly understood. Tissues from 140 patients with invasive melanoma were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Flow cytometry, Western blotting, viability assays, wound healing assays, verteporfin treatment, and xenograft assays were conducted using melanoma cell lines B16F1 and B1
OBJECTIVES: To better understand the discrepancy that may exist between urologists and patients on various aspects of their perception of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Questionnaires on BPH for patients and urologists and a BPH patient education brochure were developed. 141 patients with symptoms of BPH completed a set of two questionnaires, to be filled out before and after reading the education brochure. 172 urologists practicing in Korea were randomly selected to c
BACKGROUND: Phyllodes tumor (PT) is a rare tumor showing various malignant potential. The histological grade of PT is related to clinical outcome, but its relationship between gaining of malignant potential and underlying mechanism including cancer stem cell factor was not understood yet. OBJECTIVE: The main purpose of this study was to determine the expression pattern of cancer stem cell marker in PT and to understand its clinical and pathological implications. METHODS: CD44, CD166, ALDH1, and
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to perform a meta-analysis of the diagnostic test accuracy of Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS) as a prognostic factor for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Studies were retrieved from PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases, and we performed comprehensive searches to identify studies that evaluated the prognostic impact of pretreatment GPS in RCC patients. We assessed sensitivity, specificity, summary receiver operating characteristic curv
