研究室紹介

Professor Sun-Young Lee's research lab focuses on translational and clinical pharmacology, with a strong emphasis on pharmacogenomics, particularly the role of ABCB1 (MDR1) gene polymorphisms in drug disposition and individualized medicine. The lab investigates genetic variations influencing drug response, especially in P-glycoprotein substrates like fexofenadine, and explores the impact of surgical interventions—such as cholecystectomy—on gut microbiota and host metabolism. Additionally, the lab contributes to understanding the genetic and environmental risk factors for gastric cancer and rare infectious complications, such as pancreatitis in scrub typhus. Their work bridges genetics, gastroenterology, and infectious disease, with a focus on precision medicine in Asian populations.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: There have been considerable disagreements regarding the influence of MDR1 (ABCB1) polymorphisms on the disposition of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrates. We speculated that the unknown function of the A allele of exon 21 G2677T/A (Ala893Ser/Thr) provides one of the reasons for the contradictory results. This study was performed to clarify the effects of major MDR1 gene polymorphisms, including a variant A allele in exon 21, on fexofenadine pharmacokinetics. METHODS: We

Cholecystectomy alters the bile flow into the intestine and the enterohepatic circulation of the bile acids; this may affect the gut microbiota. We assessed the gut microbiota composition of patients who had undergone cholecystectomy and compared with those who had not. From a cohort of 1463 adult participants who underwent comprehensive health screening examinations, 27 subjects who had undergone cholecystectomy (cholecystectomy group) and 81 age- and sex-matched subjects who had not (control g

Recurrence of biliary symptoms after endoscopic sphincterotomy for choledocholithiasis in patients with gall bladder stones
Sun Young Yi
SJR Q1Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

BACKGROUND: There are a few reports regarding the long-term results of endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST). However, little data is available on the recurrence of biliary symptoms after EST for choledocholithiasis, in patients with gall bladder stones. METHODS: All patients had gall bladder and common bile duct stones (n = 60; age 32-84 years, median age 55 years), and had received an EST. One group of these patients had a laparoscopic or open cholecystectomy (n = 39; group A), while the other group

Pancreatic abscess following scrub typhus associated with multiorgan failure
Sun Young Yi
SJR Q1World Journal of Gastroenterology

Clinical severity of scrub typhus ranges from mild to fatal. Acute pancreatitis with abscess formation is a rare complication among patients with scrub typhus. This paper reports a case of scrub typhus in a 75 years old man with acute pancreatitis with abscess formation and multiorgan failure. Abdominal computed tomography showed multiple infected pancreatic pseudocysts with peri-pancreatic infiltration. Multiorgan failure was successfully treated with doxycycline, ceftriaxone, and supportive ma

SJR Q2Advanced Robotics

Abstract Colonoscopy is a safe and effective procedure to diagnose and treat the large bowel with the help of the flexible endoscope. This paper presents a new colonoscopy training simulator to help trainees practice and acquire the necessary skills and experiences with no risk to the patients and possibly less cost. The simulator includes a specialized haptic interface to transfer force feedback through a long and flexible tube, and graphics algorithms to display the virtual colon realistically

Midazolam for patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy: A prospective, single‐blind and randomized study to determine the appropriate amount and time of initiation of endoscopy
Sun Young Yi, Jeong Eun Shin
SJR Q1Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Midazolam is currently the most used sedative agent in endoscopy. The present study was designed to examine the appropriate dose of midazolam, time of initiation of endoscopy after midazolam infusion, and to prove the necessity of flumazenil as an antidote. METHODS: One hundred and eighty patients undergoing diagnostic gastroscopy were assigned three different amounts of intravenous midazolam in prospective, single-blinded and randomized setting as follows: (i) group I 0.03

The objective of this study is to determine whether targeted colonoscopy skills are acquired through simulation-based training using the KAIST-Ewha Colonoscopy Simulator II, and the acquired skills can be transferred to colonoscopy to actual patients. Eleven subjects consisting of six fellows and five residents participated in the study. The fellows and residents were divided into two groups, simulation-trained group and control group. Simulation-based training included practicing the targeted s

SJR Q2Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology

We report a case of microcystic (glycogen-rich) adenoma of the whole pancreas with coexistent pancreatic low-grade malignant islet cell tumor in a 29-year-old woman. She complained of nausea, vomiting, and growing abdominal mass. Abdominal computed tomography showed multiple cysts in the whole pancreas and a calcified solid mass in the pancreatic head. A Whipple's operation and total pancreatectomy with splenectomy was performed to treat pancreatic cystic neoplasm. The pancreas was entirely repl

Communications technology

The gas disaster is the main minatory factor in coal mine. At present, the gas monitoring principally relies on the wire monitoring system which is hard to wire, easy to damage and high in cost. Therefore,an emergency wireless gas concentration acquisition system is proposed in this paper. It can be used for remote collection of underground gas concentration and other environmental parameters. This system includes acquisition front-end and receiving equipment. In actual application, the acquisition
