Professor Sung-Ho Kim's research lab investigates the cognitive and perceptual mechanisms underlying visual perception, with a focus on figure/ground organization, amodal completion, apparent motion, and the integration of dynamic and static cues in shaping spatial and temporal perception. 본 연구는 한 자극이 제자리에서 반복적으로 점멸하는 매우 단순한 자극 시퀀스에서 인접 위치에 큰 물체가 함께 제시될 때, 가현운동이 지각될 수 있는지를 알아보았다. 연구 결과, 점멸 자극과 인접 물체 간 경계에 중첩의 이미지 단서가 주어지고 자극 간 시간 간격이 길 때, 인접 물체 뒤로 숨었다가 나타나는 가현운동이 관찰되었다. 이 결과는 가려져서 보이지 않는 물체의 무형 표상이 움직임 대응 관계에 사용되어, 출현과 소멸(coming into/going out of existence)의 물리적 시퀀스가 드러남과 가려짐(coming into/going out of sight)의 가현운동으로 지각될 수 있음을 시사한다.
