研究室紹介

Professor Sung-hoon Yoo's research lab focuses on metabolic and endocrine disorders, with a primary emphasis on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), gestational diabetes, and autoimmune thyroid diseases. The lab investigates the pathophysiological mechanisms linking obesity, glucose metabolism, and cardiovascular outcomes in elderly diabetic patients, as well as the role of immune markers such as IgG4 and GADA in disease progression and complications. Research also explores molecular pathways in vascular smooth muscle cells and gut hormone responses in diabetes pathogenesis. The lab integrates clinical epidemiology with molecular biology to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets for diabetes and its related conditions.

SJR Q1The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism

CONTEXT: Some studies have suggested that patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) concomitant with obesity have better clinical outcomes than normal-weight patients with T2DM. OBJECTIVE: We evaluated associations among obesity, cardiovascular disease (CVD) events, and mortality in elderly patients with T2DM without CVD. METHODS: This retrospective observational study from 2009 to 2017, with a mean follow-up of 7.26 years, included 249 903 elderly (≥ 65 years) patients with T2DM and no pree

Anti-Proliferative Effects of Rutin on OLETF Rat Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells Stimulated by Glucose Variability

SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

Fluctuating glucose levels increased proliferation and migration of OLETF rat VSMCs via MAPK (ERK1/2), BMK1, PI3K, and NF-κB pathways. These effects were inhibited by the antioxidant rutin.

These results suggest that IgG4 levels are elevated in newly diagnosed GD patients compared with euthyroid subjects and in the presence of GO compared with the absence of GO. Moreover, our findings suggest that IgG4 levels are associated with the development and grade of GO in GD patients.

BACKGROUND: We conducted this research in order to evaluate the prevalence of glutamic acid decarboxylase antibodies (GADA) in Korean women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), to identify the clinical characteristics of these women, and to gauge the prevalence of diabetes among them after childbirth. METHODS: We studied 887 Korean women with GDM who were screened for GADA, and assessed their antepartum clinical characteristics and the outcomes of their pregnancies. At 6 weeks' postpartum,

AIMS/INTRODUCTION: We investigated the prevalence, treatment and control of diagnosed diabetes in Korean adults from 1998 to 2010. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare carried out the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) in the years 1998 (I), 2001 (II), 2005 (III), 2007-2009 (IV) and 2010 (V). We estimated the prevalence of diagnosed diabetes in Korean adults and the proportions of well-controlled diabetes, as defined by having glycosylat

GLP-1 secretion does not differ between pGDM patients and normal women. GIP was elevated, but that does not seem to induce in increase in insulin secretion. Therefore, we conclude that other factors such as heredity and environment play important roles in the development of type 2 diabetes.

Korean Diabetes JournalOA

The need for a new healthcare system is growing due to the paradigm shift from health supervision to health maintenance. Previously, we performed a pilot study that examined the effectiveness of a ubiquitous healthcare (U-healthcare) diabetes management program which consists of self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) and mobile phone services for elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this study, we investigated the effect of a diabetes management program using U-healthcare based on

Management of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Hanyang Medical ReviewsOA

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a frequent medical problem during pregnancy. It is associated with an increased risk of complications for GDM mother and the offspring. There is increasing evidence that GDM may increase the risk of future type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in mothers, and may also increase the risk of obesity and diabetes in children. Therefore GDM affects health for a lifetime. The International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) proposed

Background: Diabetic foot ulcers are an issue of clinical interest as diabetes has become the leading cause of occlusive vasculopathy. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical outcomes and the effect of revascularization in diabetic foot ulcers with peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD).Methods: A total of 46 patients who had surgical treatment for diabetic foot ulcers were evaluated. We conducted an intergroup comparison of their baseline demographic and clinical characteris
