Professor Sung Hyun Park's research lab specializes in advanced surgical techniques and oncological outcomes in gastric cancer, with a strong focus on minimally invasive and robotic surgery. The lab investigates innovative surgical navigation systems, fluorescence-guided lymphadenectomy, and the application of single-port robotic platforms to improve precision and patient recovery. Additionally, the lab explores historical and archaeological aspects of ancient Korean state formation through the study of early earthen fortresses and border dynamics between ancient kingdoms such as Goguryeo and Silla.

This paper aims to trace where the border between Goguryeo and Shilla was in the 5th and 6th centuries, and to examine the structure of the border area between these two ancient kingdoms. The border between Goguryeo and Shilla changed distinctively, over three time periods. ⑴ The 1st Stage (~450AD)The border between the two kingdoms was formed when King Gwang'gaeto-wang of Goguryeo occupied the Bukhan-gang River basin of Baekje and rescued Shilla from the attack of the Japanese pirates in the ea

Minimally invasive surgery reduces surgical trauma and the size and number of incisions. The da Vinci SP robotic surgical system was designed to overcome the technical demands of single-incision laparoscopic surgery. This study aimed to demonstrate the safety and feasibility of single-port (SP) robotic distal gastrectomy (SPRDG) for patients with gastric cancer using the da Vinci SP system (Intuitive Surgical Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, USA). This study was designed as a single-arm prospective phase I/

Patient-specific virtual three-dimensional surgical navigation for gastric cancer surgery: A prospective study for preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance

SJR Q2Frontiers in OncologyOA

Introduction Abdominal computed tomography (CT) can accurately demonstrate organs and vascular structures around the stomach, and its potential role for image guidance is becoming increasingly established. However, solely using two-dimensional CT images to identify critical anatomical structures is undeniably challenging and not surgeon-friendly. To validate the feasibility of a patient-specific 3-D surgical navigation system for preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance during robotic g

This paper aims to examine the earthen fortresses constructed for the first time in Yeongnam province. Early earthen fortresses are very important materials in that they have relation to the state formation and the control of the provinces in ancient Korea. However, they have been less concerned than tomb materials because they have not been excavated sufficiently. There are three different viewpoints to understand early earthen fortresses: These are thought to have been built ① before the forma

SJR Q1International Journal of SurgeryOA

BACKGROUND: Fluorescent lymphography-guided lymphadenectomy (FL) for gastric cancer is gaining popularity. However, its impact on prognosis is not known. This study aimed to assess the prognostic impact of FL in gastric cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed 5678 gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy from 2013 to 2017. The survival was compared between the FLFL group and the conventional lymphadenectomy (non-FL group) using 1:1 propensity score ma

Objective: To suggest the possible indication of proximal gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer located at the upper third of the stomach. Background: Proximal gastrectomy has been an alternative surgical procedure for early proximal gastric cancer due to its benefits for quality of life while maintaining oncological outcomes. However, the oncological safety of proximal gastrectomy for advanced tumors remains unclear. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data from 878 patients who underwent ra

Pohang Jungseongri Silla Stone Monument was discovered in 2009 and has been studied for over 2 years. However, its inscription couldn’t be understood because there are many lists of names and a few verbs. There is a gyo (敎, king’s order) in the inscription, but it has not been agreed on what the content of the gyo is. I think that it is because the inscription is not the record of the gyo itself, but that of the procedure to resolve a dispute by the gyo. The gyo was issued in the first sentence,

The present study investigated the use of cell-cycle regulators for predicting the progression of silent pituitary adenoma (SPA) following surgical resection, via immunohistochemical analysis of tumor samples obtained by surgical resection. The medical records of patients diagnosed with SPA between January 2000 and December 2013 in the Samsung Changwon Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine (Changwon, South Korea) were reviewed. Immunohistochemical staining was performed on section
