研究室紹介
Professor Sung Jin Kang's research lab specializes in empirical macroeconomics, with a focus on growth economics, environmental economics, and industrial organization. The lab investigates key economic phenomena such as de-industrialization, energy demand elasticity, and the impact of financialization on innovation strategies, using advanced econometric methods and large-scale panel data. Current research directions include the role of foreign direct investment in structural economic change, the effectiveness of environmental policies in promoting green trade, and the interplay between financial development, human capital, and long-term economic growth. The lab emphasizes rigorous empirical analysis to inform economic policy in both developed and emerging economies.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to discuss the various issues regarding de‐industrialisation and to systematically analyse the causes of this phenomenon. In addition, the effect of the recent increase in foreign direct investment on de‐industrialisation will be analysed. Unlike extant studies, this study employs a more reliable method of estimation, known as the generalised method of moments system, for establishing the importance of foreign direct investment (FDI) with regard to de‐indust
The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of environmental policies on bilateral green exports among developed and developing countries. The empirical analysis was based on the fixed-effects gravity model estimation with the PPML (Poisson pseudo-maximum likelihood) for bilateral green trade of world countries for 1990–2019. This study focused on two proxy environmental policy indicators: environment-related tax and energy intensity. The major findings were that, first, promotion
The price and output elasticities of energy demand continue to be of interest to academia and policy institutions, having been estimated in previous studies. However, the estimated results show some inconsistencies, especially at the sectoral level, across countries. Based on our conjecture that those inconsistencies are mainly due to the effect of contingent energy intensities and partially to different units of analysis, we narrowed the analysis to the industry level and classified 16 industri
An endogenous growth model has been developed that extends Sidrauski (1967), Roubini and Sala-i-Martin (1992,1995) and Lucas (1988) by combining financial development, human capital investment, and external openness. Financial development and trade liberalization are shown to increase the economic growth rate by increasing the marginal benefits of human capital investment. Expansionary governments are, however, provided with an incentive to increase the money supply growth rate, to repress the f
Abstract This study empirically examines whether managerial myopia leads to short-termism of innovation strategy using Korean firm and USPTO data covering 1980–2017. The main finding is that payout indicators, as the proxy variables for financialisation and managerial myopia, have a negative effect on innovation, quantitatively and qualitatively. Hence, managerial myopia and short-termism of innovation strategy are related. Further, estimation by the firm’s size reveals that the hypothesis of ma
This study investigates the effect of personal remittance inflows and financial development on the economic growth of 29 economic transition countries for the period of 2000–2015. Dynamic panel system GMM estimation results show that there is a positive relationship between remittance inflows and economic growth. It also shows that remittances and the level of financial development have a substitute relationship in promoting economic growth. So the remittance inflows have a positive effect on ec
Using household panel data from Korea for 1995–98, this paper shows that private transfers of Korean households were altruistically motivated. Although the altruistic motive of households seemed to be reinforced during the financial crisis, the amount of private transfers was still not sufficient to support households living in urban areas. Also, there had been a strong crowding‐out relation between private and public transfers. This suggests that the Korean government should have designed its p
