研究室紹介

Professor Sung-Keon Moon's research lab specializes in medical imaging and molecular imaging, with a focus on advancing diagnostic accuracy in abdominal and neurological diseases. The lab investigates the application of advanced imaging techniques—such as gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI, shear wave elastography, and contrast-enhanced CT—for early detection and differentiation of liver tumors, renal fibrosis, and brain tumors. Additionally, the lab explores the molecular mechanisms of natural compounds like morin in vascular diseases, particularly in modulating vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation relevant to atherosclerosis. The integration of imaging biomarkers with pathological and molecular insights defines the lab’s translational research approach.

SJR Q1Investigative Radiology

HCCs and AEPs show different enhancing features on the delayed dynamic and hepatobiliary phases of gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI. Gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI may, therefore, help to differentiate between HCC and AEP.

SJR Q2Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of ultrasonic shear wave elastography for quantification of renal fibrosis in an experimental rabbit model. METHODS: Thirty-eight kidneys of 19 rabbits were studied and categorized into 3 groups: group I, ureter obstruction (n = 9); group II, renal vein occlusion (n = 10); and group III, normal control (n = 19). Before surgery, we measured stiffness at the renal cortex using shear wave elastography and evaluated the sonographi

Gliosarcoma of the Cerebellar Hemisphere: a Case Report and Review of the Literature
Sung Kyoung Moon, Eui Jong Kim, Woo Suk Choi, Chang‐Woo Ryu, Bong Jin Park, Juhie Lee
SJR Q1Korean Journal of RadiologyOA

Gliosarcoma is a rare central nervous system tumor usually located in the supratentorial area. Here we report a rare case of a gliosarcoma that developed in the cerebellar hemisphere in a 70-year-old woman. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain revealed an infratentorial mass of which radiological features were similar to those of glioblastoma. The tumor was diagnosed by pathology as a gliosarcoma. Though rare, gliosarcoma should be considered in the differen

Morin inhibits PDGF-induced proliferation, migration, and invasion of vascular smooth muscle cells via modulating p27KIP1, AKT, and MMP-9 activities

SJR Q3General Physiology and BiophysicsOA

Hyper-proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) are closely associated with atherosclerosis. Recently, the flavonol morin has been reported to exhibit potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Therefore, we investigated molecular mechanisms of morin in VSMCs stimulated by PDGF. Morin effectively inhibited PDGF-stimulated proliferation of VSMCs through a G1 cell-cycle arrest, leading to down-regulation of CDK2, CDK4, cyclin D1, and cyclin E proteins. Interest

Sonography of Gastrointestinal Tract Diseases
Sung Eun Ahn, Sung Kyoung Moon, Dong Ho Lee, Seong Jin Park, Joo Won Lim, Hyun Cheol Kim, Han Na Lee
SJR Q2Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine

Sonographic evaluation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract may be difficult because of overlying intraluminal bowel gas and gas-related artifacts. However, in the absence of these factors and with the development of high-resolution scanners and the technical experience of radiologists, sonography can become a powerful tool for GI tract assessment. This pictorial essay focuses on sonographic findings of GI tract lesions compared with endoscopic, computed tomographic, and magnetic resonance imaging

Mechanism of metastasis to the spermatic cord and testis from advanced gastric cancer: a case report
Soyoung Park, Sung Kyoung Moon, Joo Won Lim
SJR Q2BMC GastroenterologyOA

BACKGROUND: The spermatic cord and testis are very rare sites for metastasis from gastric cancer. Although several mechanisms have been suggested to explain this unusual metastasis, the actual mechanism remains unclear. We report a case of right spermatic cord and testicular metastasis, review its imaging findings, and suggest a mechanism of tumor spread. CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old man complained of a palpable mass in the right inguinal area. He had been treated with distal gastrectomy wit

Sonographic findings in a case of scrotal lymphangioma

SJR Q3Journal of Clinical Ultrasound

ABSTRACT The scrotum is an extremely rare site for lymphangioma. We report the case of a scrotal lymphangioma in a 20‐year‐old male patient who developed painless scrotal swelling. Typical sonography and MRI findings are shown. Surgical excision and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Clin Ultrasound 42:234–236, 2014

Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound for Focal Hepatic Lesions
Soyoung Park, Myung‐Won You, Hyo‐Jin Kang, Sung Kyoung Moon, Seong Jin Park
SJR Q3Ultrasound Quarterly

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound can be used effectively to evaluate focal hepatic lesions and offers unique advantages over computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Serial vascular filling patterns of focal hepatic lesions during arterial, portal, and late phases can provide unique information on lesion characterization and differentiation. Sensitive depiction of arterial hypervascularity and analysis of washout pattern are clues for differentiation of several indeterminate hepatic nodul
