研究室紹介
Professor Sung Kook Lee's research lab specializes in the development and characterization of advanced ceramic and refractory metal coatings for extreme environment applications. The lab focuses on chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques to fabricate high-performance coatings such as rhenium on graphite and molybdenum substrates, with an emphasis on microstructure control, interfacial adhesion, and crystal orientation. Key research directions include coating-substrate interactions, diffusion behavior, and the optimization of deposition parameters to enhance coating durability and performance in high-temperature and corrosive environments. The lab also explores fundamental mechanisms governing coating growth and interfacial reactions to support applications in aerospace, nuclear energy, and advanced manufacturing.

3Rhenium coatings were fabricated on a graphite substrate at 1100 and 1250 o C and a molybdenum substrate at 1150 and 1250 o C by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using ReCl 5 precursor, and the effects of deposition temperatures and substrates on microstructure and crystal orientation were investigated. The rhenium coating on graphite infiltrated the pores about hundred micrometers into the graphite, resulting in a large contact area between the coating and the graphite. However, the rhenium coat
