研究室紹介

Professor Sunghwan Kim's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of biomedical sciences, materials engineering, and cybersecurity. The lab investigates cardiac pathophysiology, particularly left atrial function and structural remodeling in atrial fibrillation, with an emphasis on biomarkers like left atrial stiffness and epicardial adipose tissue. It also explores metabolic and proteomic alterations in neurodevelopmental disorders such as Down’s syndrome, while examining the impact of pharmaceutical agents—like proton pump inhibitors—on bone metabolism. Additionally, the lab addresses emerging challenges in digital security, particularly social engineering cyberattacks on mobile financial applications, integrating quantitative risk assessment methodologies for real-world device security.

Journal of Cardiovascular UltrasoundOA

Patients with paroxysmal AF have decreased LA reservoir function and increased stiffness, in comparison with that of the control subjects. LA stiffness was significantly related with LA volume indices and reservoir function. LA stiffness can be used for the assessment of LA function in patients with paroxysmal AF.

In elderly patients, administering a PPI for 8 weeks altered bone parameters. Our study suggested that PPIs might directly alter bone metabolism via the vacuolar H(+)-ATPase in osteoclasts.

SJR Q2PROTEOMICS

Trisomy 21 (Down's syndrome) is the most common genetic cause of human mental retardation. In Down's syndrome (DS) patients, deteriorated glucose, lipid, purine, folate and methionine/homocysteine metabolism has been reported. In our study, we used a proteomic approach to evaluate protein expression of enzyme proteins of intermediary metabolism in the brain of Down's syndrome fetuses. In fetal DS brain, we detected increased protein levels of mitochondrial aconitase as well as NADP-linked isocit

Background Epicardial adipose tissue ( EAT ) is known to play an important role in atrial fibrillation substrate remodeling; however, the influence of sex on the association between EAT and left atrial ( LA ) transport function has not been elucidated. Methods and Results Of the 514 patients who underwent an index atrial fibrillation ablation procedure, 123 postmenopausal women with no history of hormone replacement therapy and 123 men who were matched for age, body mass index, type of atrial fi

어깨너머공격 모델링 및 보안 키패드 취약점 분석
김성환, 박민수, 김승주
http://society.kisti.re.kr/journal/kj_view.jsp?kj=JBBHCB&soc=kiisc

Thin elemental coatings of yttrium, cobalt, and yttrium/cobalt on ferritic stainless steel for SOFC interconnect applications
김성환, 허주열, Jae-Ho Jun, Joong-Hwan Jun, Jerome Favergeon

Thin elemental coatings of Y, Co, and Y/Co on a commercial ferritic stainless steel (AISI444) were investigated for their effects on the growth kinetics and area specific resistance (ASR) of the scale formed at 800 ℃. After oxidation for 1000 h, the ASR value of the Y-coated AISI444 was less than that of the corresponding uncoated sample by the factor of two, because of a significant retardation of scale growth. The Co coating also resulted in a decrease of the ASR value even though it significa

Differences in functional network between focal onset nonconvulsive status epilepticus and toxic metabolic encephalopathy: application to machine learning models for differential diagnosis
Seong Hwan Kim, Hayom Kim, Jung Bin Kim
SJR Q2Cognitive NeurodynamicsOA

We aimed to compare network properties between focal-onset nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) and toxic/metabolic encephalopathy (TME) during periods of periodic discharge using graph theoretical analysis, and to evaluate the applicability of graph measures as markers for the differential diagnosis between focal-onset NCSE and TME, using machine learning algorithms. Electroencephalography (EEG) data from 50 focal-onset NCSE and 44 TMEs were analyzed. Epochs with nonictal periodic discharges
