研究室紹介

Professor Sungwon Jeong's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary health and engineering research, spanning biomedical engineering, health promotion program evaluation, and educational assessment for students with disabilities. The lab investigates clinical outcomes in maxillofacial reconstruction using full-thickness skin grafts, evaluates prenatal ultrasonographic diagnosis in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and develops quality assessment tools for public health programs. Additionally, the lab contributes to educational equity by advancing scalable assessment methods for students with disabilities, integrating mathematical modeling in semiconductor supply chains, and improving clinical decision-making through medical imaging interpretation.

Subcutaneous emphysema related to dental procedures
Cheol-Hee Jeong, Seungkyu Yoon, Seung-Won Chung, Jae‐Young Kim, Kwang‐Ho Park, Jong‐Ki Huh
SJR Q2Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeonsOA

Upon adequate conservative treatment accompanied by prophylactic antibiotic treatment considering the risk of infection, patients showed signs of improvement within a few days or weeks. There was no significant difference in treatment period between patients with subcutaneous emphysema localized to the facial region and those with subcutaneous emphysema spreading to the neck or beyond. These findings need to be confirmed by analysis of additional cases.

Supply chain model for the semiconductor industry in consideration of manufacturing characteristics
Y. H. Lee, Seung-Won Chung, Buddress Lee, Kyeong-Hee Kang
SJR Q1Production Planning & Control

The semiconductor industry has a supply chain network that is distributed all over the world, and its manufacturing process has the particular characteristics that should be considered in supply chain modelling. In this paper we suggest an integrated mathematical model for the semiconductor industry supply chain consisting of production and distribution chains, where manufacturing re-entrancy, binning and substitution are considered. To achieve our objective, three policies for the production ch

Full thickness skin grafts from the groin: donor site morbidity and graft survival rate from 50 cases
Somi Kim, Seung-Won Chung, In–Ho Cha
SJR Q2Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeonsOA

OBJECTIVES: Full thickness skin grafts (FTSG) offer several advantages; they are esthetically superb, have less postoperative shrinkage, and offer minimal postoperative pain and scar formation at the donor site. As a donor site of FTSG, the groin offers a relatively large area of skin with high elasticity. The aim of this study was to evaluate FTSG from the groin for reconstruction in oral and maxillofacial surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a retrospective study, 50 patients (27 males, 23 femal

Prenatal ultrasonographic diagnosis of cleft lip with or without cleft palate; pitfalls and considerations

SJR Q2Maxillofacial Plastic and Reconstructive SurgeryOA

Ultrasonographic examination is widely used for screening of abnormal findings on prenatal screening. Cleft lip with or without cleft palate of the fetus can also be screened by using ultrasonography. Presence of abnormal findings of the fetal lip or palate can be detected by the imaging professionals. However, such findings may not be familiar to oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons can use ultrasonographic imaging of fetal cleft lip with or without cleft palate to p

Cross-Classified Random Effects Modeling for Moderated Item Calibration
Seung-Won Chung, Li Cai
SJR Q1Journal of Educational and Behavioral StatisticsOA

In the research reported here, we propose a new method for scale alignment and test scoring in the context of supporting students with disabilities. In educational assessment, students from these special populations take modified tests because of a demonstrated disability that requires more assistance than standard testing accommodation. Updated federal education legislation and guidance require that these students be assessed and included in state education accountability systems, and their ach

The ultimate goal of health promotion programs is to improve the quality of life through promoting community health. Since the performance of health promotion programs are greatly affected by the quality of the planning and implementation process of the programs, the proper quality assessment of the program process is very important. According to existing literature, the tool for assessing the quality of the process and implementation as well as the outcome. However, no assessment tool for the q

flexMIRT: A Flexible Modeling Package for Multidimensional Item Response Models
Seung-Won Chung, Carrie R. Houts
SJR Q2Measurement Interdisciplinary Research and Perspectives

Advanced modeling of item response data through the item response theory (IRT) or item factor analysis frameworks is becoming increasingly popular. In the social and behavioral sciences, the underlying structure of tests/assessments is often multidimensional (i.e., more than 1 latent variable/construct is represented in the items). This review provides an introduction and overview of flexMIRT 3.5, a commercially available statistical software program for the analysis of item response data that w

Infectious Spondylitis Caused by Streptococcus gordonii

Infectious spondylitis is a rare but severe disease of the spine caused by bacteria or other pathogens. Particularly in immunocompromised patients, a definitive source of infection often remains uncertain. Among many pathogens, Streptococcus gordonii, a normal oral flora, is a very rare pathogen in infectious spondylitis. Only a few articles have reported infectious spondylitis caused by Streptococcus gordonii. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no reports of surgically treated infect

Unilateral Mandibular Advancement With Bilateral Intraoral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy
Seung-Won Chung, Hwi-Dong Jung, Hyung-Sik Park, Young‐Soo Jung
SJR Q2Journal of Craniofacial SurgeryOA

Intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) is an effective surgical procedure that is used for the correction of mandibular prognathism. However, application of IVRO for mandibular advancement has been limited because of the instability of the proximal segments caused by the gap between the distal and proximal segments. We report a case of unilateral mandibular advancement with bilateral IVRO for the correction of facial asymmetry. This case shows possible application of bilateral IVRO for unilat

Tumors of the deep lobe of parotid gland are rare. These benign tumors have usually been treated by total parotidectomy, which has functional and esthetic side effects. Recently, there has been a trend for operations of parotid gland benign tumors to be less radical and selective deep lobe parotidectomy has been introduced. This technique preserves the superficial lobe and facial nerve when tumor is located in the deep lobe. Selective deep lobe parotidectomy preserves parotid salivary function,
