研究室紹介

Professor Sunjin Park's research lab specializes in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, with a focus on advancing laparoscopic techniques, including single-port and conventional laparoscopic resections for colorectal cancer. The lab investigates surgical outcomes, lymph node retrieval, and postoperative complications such as shoulder pain following laparoscopy, aiming to improve patient survival and surgical precision. Research also includes national epidemiological trends in colorectal surgery to guide clinical practice and policy. The lab integrates clinical data with mechanistic insights, such as molecular pathways involving RAGE and glycosylation in inflammation and cancer progression.

The G82S Polymorphism Promotes Glycosylation of the Receptor for Advanced Glycation End Products (RAGE) at Asparagine 81
Sun Jin Park, Torsten Kleffmann, Paul A. Hessian
SJR Q1Journal of Biological ChemistryOA

Interaction between the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) and its ligands amplifies the proinflammatory response. N-Linked glycosylation of RAGE plays an important role in the regulation of ligand binding. Two potential sites for N-linked glycosylation, at Asn(25) and Asn(81), are implicated, one of which is potentially influenced by a naturally occurring polymorphism that substitutes Gly(82) with Ser. This G82S polymorphic RAGE variant displays increased ligand binding and dow

Clinical Significance of Lymph Node Micrometastasis in Stage I and II Colon Cancer
Sun Jin Park, Kil Yeon Lee, Sang Yong Kim
SJR Q1Cancer Research and TreatmentOA

Inadequate lymph node retrieval and lymphatic invasion were found to be associated with a poorer outcome for node-negative colon cancer patients. The presence of immunostained tumors cells in pN0 lymph nodes was found to have no significant effect on survival, but these tumor were identified by re-do H-E staining. Maximal attention should be paid to the total number of lymph nodes that are retrieved during surgery for colon cancer patients.

Laparoscopic Surgery for Colorectal Cancer in Korea: Nationwide Data from 2013 to 2018
Sun Jin Park, Kil Yeon Lee, Suk-Hwan Lee
SJR Q1Cancer Research and TreatmentOA

PURPOSE: We report nationwide data on the current status of laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer (CRC) in Korea. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nationwide data of patients who underwent surgery for CRC from 2013 to 2018 were obtained from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service database. Data and trends of laparoscopy use for colorectal resection over six years were examined. RESULTS: In Korea, a total of 117,320 patients underwent surgical resection for CRC from 2013 to 2018. The proport

Postoperative Shoulder Pain after Laparoscopic Surgery
Sun Jin Park
Daehan nae'si'gyeong bog'gang'gyeong oe'gwa haghoeji/Journal of minimally invasive surgeryOA

We often encounter patients complaining of shoulder pain after laparoscopic surgery. The pain mechanism is believed to be due to the diaphragmatic overstretching under pressure in a pneumoperitoneum, which causes referred pain to the shoulder, but the exact mechanism has not been clarified.

Daehan nae'si'gyeong bog'gang'gyeong oe'gwa haghoeji/Journal of minimally invasive surgeryOA

The aim of this study was to report nationwide data on the current practice of laparoscopic colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery in Korea. Nationwide surgical data for colorectal cancer from 2008 to 2013 were obtained from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service database and a retrospective analysis of CRC surgery patients was conducted. The trends in laparoscopy use for each procedure of colorectal resection over six years were evaluated. From 2008 to 2013, a total of 105,305 patients natio

SJR Q1World Journal of Surgery

BACKGROUND: Single-port laparoscopic surgery has attracted attention in the field of minimally invasive colorectal surgery. We hypothesized that an experienced laparoscopic surgeon could perform single-port surgery for colon cancer eligible for conventional laparoscopic anterior resection. Our aim was to analyze our initial experience and immediate surgical outcomes of single-port anterior resection. METHODS: A total of 37 consecutive patients with presumed sigmoid colonic cancer underwent singl

SJR Q1World Journal of GastroenterologyOA

AIM: To study the clinical outcomes of medical therapy in patients with right colonic diverticulitis. METHODS: The records of 189 patients with right colonic diverticulitis which was finally diagnosed by computed tomography, ultrasonography, or operative findings were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS: Of the 189 patients hospitalized for right colonic diverticulitis, the stages of diverticulitis by a modified Hinchey classification were 26 patients (13.8%) in stage 0, 139 patients (73.5%) in st

Laparoscopic Abdominoperineal Resection for Rectal Cancer in a Patient With Situs Inversus Totalis

SJR Q2Surgical Laparoscopy Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques

Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a very rare condition. Laparoscopic surgery in a patient with SIT is difficult because the surgeon's dexterity is compromised during the procedure, and the patient's anatomy is the mirror image of normal. We present a SIT patient who underwent laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection for rectal cancer. The detailed operative procedures and trocar placement considerations are described.

SJR Q2Diseases of the Colon & Rectum

The endo-Satinsky clamp is a useful device for rectal transection and irrigation. The use of this device makes it easier to place an endostapler just distal to the clamp and to transect the rectum in a more appropriate position.

Sun Jin Park, Kil Yeon Lee, Won Seo Park, Sun Young Min
SJR Q2Oncology

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of reintroducing oxaliplatin to patients with colorectal cancer who developed mild hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs). METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of 204 patients who received oxaliplatin-based chemotherapies between January 2003 and August 2009. Desensitization was not used. RESULTS: A total of 44 patients (21.6%) were found to have developed HSRs to oxaliplatin. After the occurrence of an HSR, a mean of three courses of oxa

PURPOSE: We aimed to develop an effective system for surgical site infection (SSI) surveillance and examine the current domestic state of SSIs for common abdominal surgeries in Korea. METHODS: The Korean Surgical Site Infection Surveillance (KOSSIS) program was developed as an SSI surveillance system. SJR Q2Vascular

The purpose of this article is to report a case of ruptured celiac trunk aneurysm treated with glue embolization. A 39-year-old man presented with abdominal pain. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) depicted the presence of hemoperitoneum, and CT angiography revealed an aneurysm in the celiac trunk. The endovascular access into the aneurysm's outflow vessel was unattainable. N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) embolization was performed. However, untargeted distal embolizations via the left gastric, spl
