Professor Sunwon Kim's research lab specializes in cardiovascular imaging and molecular diagnostics, focusing on the development and application of advanced intravascular imaging techniques to assess high-risk atherosclerotic plaques and stent-related inflammation. The lab integrates optical coherence tomography (OCT) with fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIm) to enable simultaneous microstructural and biochemical characterization of coronary plaques, advancing precision assessment of plaque vulnerability. Additionally, the lab investigates subclinical cardiovascular changes in diabetes and smoking-related arterial stiffness, aiming to identify early biomarkers for diabetic cardiomyopathy and residual vascular risk in ex-smokers.
