Professor Syngjoo Choi's research lab focuses on experimental and behavioral economics, with a strong emphasis on individual decision-making under uncertainty, networked markets, and the experimental evaluation of economic rationality. The lab investigates how people make choices in complex environments—using graphical methods, lab-in-the-field experiments, and network-based models—to understand risk preferences, utility maximization, and market efficiency. A key focus is on applying revealed preference theory to real-world interventions, such as education programs, to assess improvements in economic rationality. The lab also explores pricing dynamics and surplus distribution in interconnected systems, such as supply chains and financial networks.

15By using graphical representations of simple portfolio choice problems, we generate a very rich dataset to study behavior under uncertainty at the level of the individual subject. Skin hyperpigmentation is caused by the overproduction of melanin pigment, which is synthesized by the action of tyrosinase. We recently reported that aloesin inhibits tyrosinase activity. The model maps traditional concepts of market power, competition, and double marginalization into networks, allowing for the study of pricing in complex structures of intermediation, such as supply chains, transportation and communication networks, and financial brokerage.
