Professor Tae-gyu Kim's research lab specializes in radiation oncology and surgical oncology, focusing on optimizing treatment strategies for gastrointestinal malignancies such as rectal and gallbladder cancer. The lab investigates systemic inflammatory markers like NLR and PLR to predict tumor response and prognosis after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, while also developing personalized radiotherapy planning techniques—particularly volume-adapted re-planning for glioblastoma—to improve local control and survival. The lab further explores the role of adjuvant radiotherapy in high-risk surgical subgroups, defining optimal target volumes to reduce regional recurrence. Additionally, the lab contributes to thermodynamic studies in metallurgical systems, particularly the MnO–TiO2–MnS system, relevant to industrial processes and material behavior under high-temperature conditions.

15Purpose: There is uncertainty over the effect of systemic inflammatory response on oncologic outcomes in patients who underwent neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and surgery for rectal cancer. A close or positive RM status may be suggestive of high LR recurrence rates. In such cases, adjuvant RT may improve outcomes. When adjuvant RT is performed, the treatment volume should be well-designed so as to encompass the tumor bed, as well as LN stations No. 8, No. 9, No. 12, No. 14, and No. 16.
Patients with pT2 disease or R1 resection after curative surgery for gallbladder cancer may benefit from adjuvant radiotherapy. Our findings on regional recurrence may help physicians construct a target volume for adjuvant radiotherapy.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of volume adapted re-planning for radiotherapy (RT) after gross total resection (GTR) for glioblastoma. The sulfide capacity and the activity of MnO in the MnO–TiO2 system were measured at 1 723 K. Also, the phase equilibria of the MnO–TiO2–MnS system were estimated by measuring the solubility of MnS in the melts.
