Professor Tae Won Jang's research lab focuses on occupational and environmental health, with a strong emphasis on the impact of work-related factors on chronic disease risk and physical health outcomes. Key research directions include the epidemiological investigation of genetic mutations in lung cancer among Korean populations, the association between work hours, shift work, and obesity or sleep disturbances, and the relationship between occupational physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness. The lab also explores environmental exposures—such as cadmium—on cardiovascular health, particularly in non-occupational settings. These studies integrate epidemiological methods with clinical and imaging data to inform public health policy and preventive strategies in occupational and community settings.

There are several types of shift work in Korea: rotating shift, 24-hour shift, day-night shift, fixed night work, and.so on. As a result of analyzing the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the 6th Korean Working Condition Survey, Korean shift workers accounted for 11.6%-13.9% of wage workers. Autofluorescence bronchoscopy (AFB) is one of the newly developed diagnostic tools to detect the pre-cancerous lesions in the bronchial tissue. The utility of DLight/AFB in the detection of pre-cancerous lesions was compared to the standard white light bronchoscopy (WLB).
