Professor Won Kyung Pyo's research lab specializes in cardiovascular surgery and structural heart disease, with a strong focus on optimizing surgical outcomes and improving long-term results in patients with valvular heart disease. Key research directions include perioperative risk management in patients undergoing valve surgery, the impact of postoperative antibiotic duration on infective endocarditis outcomes, and the biomechanical performance of bioprosthetic aortic valves, particularly in relation to strut design and leaflet coaptation. The lab also investigates modifiable risk factors such as physical activity in diabetic patients to reduce the incidence of infective endocarditis, integrating clinical data with advanced computational modeling.
