研究室紹介
Professor Wontae Hwang's research lab specializes in fluid dynamics, advanced materials fabrication, and biomedical engineering, with a focus on understanding particle-laden turbulent flows, developing novel thin-film deposition techniques like electrospray for organic electronics, and exploring electrospinning for aligned nanofiber synthesis. The lab also investigates biological reprogramming in cloning and the environmental influence on respiratory virus transmission, particularly under indoor conditions. Their work bridges fundamental fluid mechanics with practical applications in clean energy, flexible optoelectronics, and public health.

15The interaction of a dilute dispersion of small heavy particles with homogeneous and isotropic air turbulence has been investigated. Stationary turbulence (at Taylor micro-scale Reynolds number of 230) with small mean flow was created in a nearly spherical sealed chamber by means of eight synthetic jet actuators. Two-dimensional particle image velocimetry was used to measure global turbulence statistics in the presence of spherical glass particles that had a diameter of 165 $\umu$ m, which was s
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Fuel stratification has been investigated as a means of improving the low-load combustion efficiency in an HCCI engine. Several stratification techniques were examined: different GDI injectors, increased swirl, and changes in injection pressure, to determine which parameters are effective for improving the combustion efficiency while maintaining NOx emissions below U.S. 2010 limits. Performance and emission measurements were obtained i
Inefficiency in the production of cloned animals is most likely due to epigenetic reprogramming errors after somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). In order to investigate whether nuclear reprogramming restores cellular age of donor cells after SCNT, we measured telomere length and telomerase activity in cloned pigs and cattle. In normal pigs and cattle, the mean telomere length was decreased with biological aging. In cloned or transgenic cloned piglets, the mean telomere length was elongated com
During the COVID-19 pandemic, analyses on global data have not reached unanimous consensus on whether warmer and humid weather curbs the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. We conjectured that this lack of consensus is due to the discrepancy between global environmental data such as temperature and humidity being collected outdoors, while most infections have been reported to occur indoors, where conditions can be different. Thus, we have methodologically investigated the effect of temperature and r
The flow field in a ribbed triangular channel representing the trailing edge internal cooling passage of a gas turbine high-pressure turbine blade is investigated via magnetic resonance velocimetry (MRV) and large eddy simulation (LES). The results are compared to a baseline channel with no ribs. LES predictions of the mean velocity fields are validated by the MRV results. In the case of the baseline triangular channel with no ribs, the mean flow and turbulence level at the sharp corner are smal
Abstract A new method is hereby presented to reduce motion blur induced error of time-resolved particle image velocimetry. The Monte-Carlo method (MCM) was applied to synthetic images to quantify the error due to blurred particle images. As the size of the streaks grew, it caused large errors in estimating displacements and increased the frequency of outliers beyond 20% for some cases. The mean displacement error was also about 0.2 – 0.55 px, which is larger than the nominally accepted PIV uncer
