Professor Wonyong Jeong's research lab specializes in renal pathology and molecular mechanisms of glomerular diseases, with a focus on rare and atypical forms of glomerulopathy. The lab investigates the ultrastructural and immunological features of diseases such as podocytic infolding glomerulopathy (PIG), contributing critical insights into their diagnosis and pathogenesis. Their work bridges clinical nephrology with electron microscopy and molecular pathology, particularly in the context of autoimmune and transplant-related kidney disorders. The lab also explores the implications of these rare diseases in diverse populations, including Asian and transplant patient cohorts.

1Podocytic infolding glomerulopathy (PIG) is a rare disease diagnosed by its characteristic structure on electron microscopy. Histologically, there are microtubules and microspheres in the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). Most PIG has been reported in Japan, with a single case in South Korea; there are no previous reports of PIG in kidney transplant patients.
