Professor Woo Kyung Bae's research lab focuses on preventive and lifestyle medicine, with a strong emphasis on nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral interventions to improve health outcomes in chronic disease prevention and management. The lab investigates the role of dietary factors—such as green tea consumption—and tailored digital health interventions, including text messaging, in promoting weight loss and reducing the risk of conditions like stomach cancer and obesity-related diseases. Additionally, the lab explores medication safety in older adults and evaluates the credibility of health information on social media platforms, particularly regarding cancer prevention and public health awareness. Their work bridges epidemiological research, clinical trials, and digital health innovation to develop evidence-based, patient-centered health promotion strategies.

15This meta-analysis investigated the quantitative association between the consumption of green tea and the risk of stomach cancer in epidemiologic studies using crude data and adjusted data. We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Review in August 2007. All the articles searched were independently reviewed and selected by 3 evaluators according to predetermined criteria. A total of 13 epidemiologic studies were included. When all the case-control and cohort studies were pooled, the odds rati
BACKGROUND: A high number of elderly people with multiple comorbidities are exposed to the risk of polypharmacy and prescription of potentially inappropriate medication (PIM). The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and patterns of PIM prescription in Korean older adults according to the 2012 Beers Criteria. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted using data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment (KHIRA) database of outpatient prescription claims collected
BACKGROUND: Worksite nutrition and physical activity interventions are important to help overweight and obese employees lose weight, but costs and insufficient sustained motivation prevent the majority of these programs from succeeding. Tailored text messaging in aiding weight management has been effective in several studies, but no studies have evaluated the effect of a tailored text message service on weight loss in a worksite health promotion program. OBJECTIVE: We studied the efficacy of a t
The HP- and C-plans had a similar effect on weight and abdominal fat reduction, but the HP-plan was more effective in reducing body fat among compliant subjects.
Despite the rapid penetration of social media in modern life, there has been limited research conducted on whether social media serves as a credible source of health information. In this study, we propose to identify colorectal cancer information on Twitter and assess its informational credibility. We collected Twitter messages containing colorectal cancer-related keywords, over a 3-month period. A review of sample tweets yielded content and user categorization schemes. The results of the sample
BACKGROUND: Studies of the efficacy of vitamin C treatment for fatigue have yielded inconsistent results. One of the reasons for this inconsistency could be the difference in delivery routes. Therefore, we planned a clinical trial with intravenous vitamin C administration. METHODS: We evaluated the effect of intravenous vitamin C on fatigue in office workers. A group of 141 healthy volunteers, aged 20 to 49 years participated in this randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial. The trial
OBJECTIVES: To assess the association between secondhand smoke exposure and blood lead and cadmium concentration in women in South Korea. DESIGN: Population-based cross-sectional study. SETTING: South Korea (Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey V). PARTICIPANTS: 1490 non-smoking women who took part in the fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010-2012), in which blood levels of lead and cadmium were measured. PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary outcom
The prevalence of COPD in Korea has been increasing every year, and a higher prevalence was associated with male, older age, more amount of smoking, lower educational level and lower BMI.
The efficacy of CMC appeared to be better than that of HA in treating dry eye disease, although meta-analysis results were not statistically significant. Further research is needed to better elucidate the difference in efficacy between CMC and HA in treating dry eye disease.
The relationship between smoking and nutrient intake has been widely investigated in several countries. However, Korea presents a population with a smoking rate of approximately 50% and dietary consumption of unique foods. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the association of dietary patterns with smoking in Korean men using a nationally representative sample. The study subjects were comprised of 4,851 Korean men over 19 yr of age who participated in the fourth Korean National Health an
Improvement of dietary habits is recommended for the management of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases (CCVD). This study aimed to evaluate the dietary habits of CCVD patients and compare them with the general population by using the Diet Quality Index—International (DQI-I). Data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (2013–2016) were used. Cardiovascular diseases included myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, and heart failure; and cerebrovascular diseases i
For paradigm shift toward patient-centered care, there is a growing interest in PHR. This study about experience of establishing and servicing the Health4U would contribute to development of interconnected PHR.
