研究室紹介
Professor Woohyung Lee's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research, focusing on neurorehabilitation, metabolic regulation, and early neurodevelopmental assessment in high-risk populations. The lab integrates neuroimaging, machine learning, and molecular biology to investigate mechanisms underlying stroke recovery, particularly post-stroke dysphagia, and to develop predictive models for clinical outcomes. Another key direction involves understanding the role of transcription factors like PPARs and HIF-1alpha in metabolic and cancer pathways, with a focus on therapeutic modulation through small molecules. The lab also applies deep learning to analyze spontaneous motor behaviors in preterm infants, aiming to predict neurodevelopmental outcomes.

15Comprehensive studies support the notion that the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors, (PPARs), PPARalpha, PPARbeta/delta, and PPARgamma, regulate cell growth, morphogenesis, differentiation, and homeostasis. Agonists of each PPAR subtype exert their effects similarly or distinctly in different tissues such as liver, muscle, fat, and vessels. It is noteworthy that PPARalpha or PPARgamma agonists have pharmacological effects by modulating the activity of AMPK, which is a key cellular ener
Background and Purpose— The aim of this study was to explore clinical and radiological prognostic factors for long-term swallowing recovery in patients with poststroke dysphagia and to develop and validate a prognostic model using a machine learning algorithm. Methods— Consecutive patients (N=137) with acute ischemic stroke referred for swallowing examinations were retrospectively reviewed. Dysphagia was monitored in the 6 months poststroke period and then analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method
Motor imagery (MI) for target-oriented movements, which is a basis for functional activities of daily living, can be more appropriate than non-target-oriented MI as tasks to promote motor recovery or brain-computer interface (BCI) applications. This study aimed to explore different characteristics of brain activation among target-oriented kinesthetic imagery (KI) and visual imagery (VI) in the first-person (VI-1) and third-person (VI-3) perspectives. Eighteen healthy volunteers were evaluated fo
Hypoxia-inducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1alpha) induces tumor proliferation, angiogenesis and metastasis. Reactive oxygen species, hypoxia, and growth factor stimulation induce HIF-1alpha, and the augmented HIF-1alpha activity confers upon cancer cells the ability to adapt to microenvironments. Oltipraz is a cancer chemopreventive agent and has an inhibitory effect on angiogenesis and tumor growth. Nonetheless, the molecular mechanism of tumor inhibition is as yet unclear. This study investigated w
This study aimed to develop quantitative assessments of spontaneous movements in high-risk preterm infants based on a deep learning algorithm. Video images of spontaneous movements were recorded in very preterm infants at the term-equivalent age. The Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE) was performed in infants at 4 months of corrected age. Joint positional data were extracted using a pretrained pose-estimation model. Complexity and similarity indices of joint angle and angular vel
Identification of prognostic factors for swallowing recovery in patients with post-stroke dysphagia is crucial for determining therapeutic strategies. We aimed at exploring hyoid kinematic features of poor swallowing prognosis in patients with post-stroke dysphagia. Of 122 patients who experienced dysphagia following ischemic stroke, 18 with poor prognosis, and 18 age- and sex-matched patients with good prognosis were selected and retrospectively reviewed. Positional data of the hyoid bone durin
Laparoscopic resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma is technically challenging because it involves complicated laparoscopic procedures that include laparoscopic hepatoduodenal lymphadenectomy, hemihepatectomy with caudate lobectomy, and hepaticojejunostomy. There are currently very few reports describing this type of surgery. Between August 2014 and December 2014, 5 patients underwent total laparoscopic or laparoscopic-assisted surgery for hilar cholangiocarcinoma. Two patients with type I or II
Power supply integrity has become a critical concern in modern chip design. To date, analysis of so-called LdI/dt drop in supply networks has mostly focused on inductance of the package, which is the predominant factor in inductive voltage drop. However, with increased clock frequencies and power supply demands, on-chip inductance has become a significant factor in the total LdI/dt drop. In this paper, we analyze the impact of on-chip inductance on power supply integrity and propose methods that
Motion estimation is a major computational task in real-time vision circuits and artificial retinas that require energy- efficient, high-speed, and microminiaturized circuitry. Traditionally, the motion estimation is made by means of velocity-tuned filters (VTFs), a class of spatiotemporal signal processing circuitry. However, conventional VTFs have limitations in area, power, and speed for real-time motion computation because they employ bulky and slow analog circuitry. In this paper, we propos
The ethanol extract of fermented soybean from Glycine max (chungkookjang, CHU) has been claimed to have chemopreventive and cytoprotective effects. In the present study, we examined the inhibitory effect of CHU on inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cytokine induction by toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands treatment and attempted to identify the responsible active components. Nitric oxide (NO) content and iNOS levels in the media or RAW264.7 cells were measured using the Griess reagent and r
BACKGROUND: Swallowing impairment is a common complication in various geriatric and neurodegenerative diseases. Swallowing kinematic analysis is essential to quantitatively evaluate the swallowing motion of the oropharyngeal structures. This study aims to develop a novel swallowing kinematic analysis software, called spatio-temporal analyzer for motion and physiologic study (STAMPS), and verify its validity and reliability. METHODS: STAMPS was developed in MATLAB, which is one of the most popula
