研究室紹介

Professor Woonseo Park's research lab specializes in minimally invasive surgical techniques for endocrine and thyroid disorders, with a strong focus on advancing endoscopic and transoral approaches to improve cosmetic outcomes and patient satisfaction. The lab investigates novel surgical access methods—such as the postauricular and axillary approach (PAA) and transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA)—to minimize visible scarring, particularly for young female patients. Additionally, the lab explores predictive biomarkers for postoperative complications, such as hypocalcemia after thyroidectomy, and applies machine learning models to enhance nuclear power plant safety during loss-of-coolant accidents. The integration of clinical surgery, molecular immunology, and data-driven engineering defines the lab’s interdisciplinary approach.

Postauricular and Axillary Approach Endoscopic Neck Surgery: A New Technique
Kyu Eun Lee, Hoon Yub Kim, Won Seo Park, Jun‐Ho Choe, Mi Ra Kwon, Seung Keun Oh, Yeo‐Kyu Youn
SJR Q1World Journal of Surgery

BACKGROUND: While the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) to endoscopic neck surgery resolves various benign and malignant thyroid and parathyroid diseases with minimal adverse effects and excellent cosmetic outcomes, it involves circumareolar incisions. Many patients, especially young female patients, are reluctant to have their breast involved. Consequently, we developed the postauricular and axillary approach (PAA) that uses postauricular incisions. METHODS: From June 2006 to December 200

Co‐stimulatory pathways controlling activation and peripheral tolerance of human CD4+CD28− T cells
Won Seo Park, Cornelia M. Weyand, Dorle Schmidt, Jörg J. Goronzy
SJR Q1European Journal of Immunology

Co-stimulation mediated by the CD28 molecule is considered critical in the activation of CD4+ T cells. In patients with rheumatoid arthritis and infrequently in normal individuals, CD4+ T cells lacking CD28 expression are expanded and contain clonogenic populations. To analyze whether these cells are independent of co-stimulatory requirements or whether they use co-stimulatory signals distinct from the CD28 pathway, we have compared CD4+ CD28+ and CD4+ CD28- T cell clones isolated from rheumatoi

Predictors and risk factors of hypoparathyroidism after total thyroidectomy
Jeong Nam Cho, Won Seo Park, Sun Young Min
SJR Q1International Journal of Surgery

Female gender (P = 0.001), extent of CND (P = 0.014), and PTG in permanent pathologic sections (P = 0.035) were found to be significant factors affecting the development of hypocalcemia. Despite some study limitations, we suggest that the relative changes in the serum levels of calcium (20%) and of phosphorus (40%) on the second postoperative day may be reliable predictors of post-thyroidectomy hypoparathyroidism.

SJR Q2BMC CancerOA

BACKGROUND: Upregulation of SLC2A genes that encode glucose transporter (GLUT) protein is associated with poor prognosis in many cancers. In colorectal cancer, studies reporting the association between overexpression of GLUT and poor clinical outcomes were flawed by small sample sizes or subjective interpretation of immunohistochemical staining. Here, we analyzed mRNA expressions in all 14 SLC2A genes and evaluated the association with prognosis in colorectal cancer using data from the Cancer Ge

Detection and Diagnostics of Loss of Coolant Accidents Using Support Vector Machines
Man Gyun Na, Won Seo Park, Dong Hyuk Lim
SJR Q2IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science

It is very difficult for operators to predict the progression of a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) because nuclear plant operators are provided with only partial information during the accident or they may have insufficient time to analyze the data despite being provided with considerable information. Therefore, its break location should be identified and the break size should be predicted accurately in order to provide the operators and technical support personnel with important and valuable in

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Hypoxia-related gene (HRG) expression is associated with survival outcomes of colorectal cancer (CRC). Our aim was developing a nomogram predicting CRC overall survival (OS) with HRGs and clinicopathological factors. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database was used as discovery cohort and two Gene Expression Omnibus databases (GSE39582 and GSE41258) served as validation cohorts. A genetic risk score model prognosticating OS was developed using mRNA expression level of HRGs. Nomogram predicting O

Tong Jin, Kyoung Sik Park, Sang Eun Nam, Young Bum Yoo, Won Seo Park, Ik Jin Yun
SJR Q1International Journal of Molecular SciencesOA

BRCA1/2 are breast cancer susceptibility genes that are involved in DNA repair and transcriptional control. They are dysregulated in breast cancer, making them attractive therapeutic targets. Here, we performed a systematic multiomics analysis to expound BRCA1/2 functions as prognostic biomarkers in breast cancer. First, using different web-based bioinformatics platforms (Oncomine, TIMER 2.0, UALCAN, and cBioportal), the expression of BRCA1/2 was assessed. Then, the R package was used to analyze

SJR Q2MagnetochemistryOA

The chemical and magnetic states of Fe/Fe2O3 thin films prepared by e-beam evaporation were investigated by using element-specific techniques, X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). It was clearly shown that the Fe layers are oxidized to form an antiferromagnetic (AFM) FeOx<1, while the bottom oxide remained a weak ferromagnet (wFM) (α+γ)-type Fe2O3. Dependences of the peak intensities and lineshapes on the Fe thickness and measurement geometry furth
