Professor Yejin Jang's research lab focuses on the discovery and development of novel antiviral agents from natural sources, particularly marine and medicinal plants, to combat emerging and resistant viral pathogens such as influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2. The lab investigates the mechanisms of action of bioactive compounds, including sulfated polysaccharides, alkaloids, and ionophores, with an emphasis on their broad-spectrum antiviral activity and low cytotoxicity. Key research directions include identifying host-directed antivirals and natural product-derived inhibitors targeting viral entry, replication, and host cell machinery. The lab integrates virology, microbiology, and phytochemical analysis to advance therapeutic strategies against respiratory viral infections.
