研究室紹介
Professor Yeong Jun Jung's research lab specializes in computational materials science and molecular simulation, focusing on the fundamental properties and behaviors of advanced nanomaterials and electrochemical systems. Key research directions include understanding ion dynamics and charging mechanisms in supercapacitors using molecular dynamics simulations, exploring the unique electronic and structural properties of two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides—particularly platinum diselenide (PtSe₂)—and developing machine learning models for predicting solvation free energies in diverse solvent environments. The lab integrates theoretical modeling, statistical mechanics, and data-driven approaches to address challenges in energy storage, 2D materials, and molecular solvation.

15By applying the concept of dynamical facilitation and analyzing the excitation lines that result from this facilitation, we investigate the origin of decoupling of transport coefficients in supercooled liquids. We illustrate our approach with two classes of models. One depicts diffusion in a strong glass former, and the other in a fragile glass former. At low temperatures, both models exhibit violation of the Stokes-Einstein relation, D approximately tau(-1), where D is the self-diffusion consta
Energy density of supercapacitors based on a single-sheet graphene electrode is studied via molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulations. Two electrolytes of different types, pure 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMI + BF 4 – ) and an 1.1 M solution of EMI + BF 4 – in acetonitrile, are considered as a prototypical room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) and organic electrolyte, respectively. Structure of ions near the electrode surface varies significantly with its charge density, esp
Two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs) in the form of MX2 (M: transition metal, X: chalcogen) exhibit intrinsically anisotropic layered crystallinity wherein their material properties are determined by constituting M and X elements. 2D platinum diselenide (2D PtSe2) is a relatively unexplored class of 2D TMDs with noble-metal Pt as M, offering distinct advantages over conventional 2D TMDs such as higher carrier mobility and lower growth temperatures
We investigate the charging phenomena of an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) by conducting both equilibrium and non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. A graphene electrode and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate ([EMIM]+[SCN]-) ionic liquid were used as a system for the EDLC. We clarify the ionic layer structure and show that an abrupt change of the ionic layers leads to a high differential capacitance of the EDLC. The charging simulations reveal that the charging dynamic
Supercapacitors with two single-sheet graphene electrodes in the parallel plate geometry are studied via molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulations. Pure 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMI+BF4-) and a 1.1 M solution of EMI+BF4- in acetonitrile are considered as prototypes of room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) and organic electrolytes. Electrolyte structure, charge density and associated electric potential are investigated by varying the charges and separation of the two ele
word embedding and recurrent layers, augmented with the attention mechanism which extracts important substructures from outputs of recurrent neural networks. As a result, the predictor network calculates the solvation free energy of a given solvent-solute pair using features from encoders. With the results obtained from extensive calculations using 2495 solute-solvent pairs, we demonstrate that Delfos not only has great potential in showing accuracy comparable to that of the state-of-the-art com
Diffusion of long ring polymers in a melt is much slower than the reorganization of their internal structures. While direct evidence for entanglements has not been observed in the long ring polymers unlike linear polymer melts, threading between the rings is suspected to be the main reason for slowing down of ring polymer diffusion. It is, however, difficult to define the threading configuration between two rings because the rings have no chain end. In this work, evidence for threading dynamics
Platinum diselenide (PtSe2) is an emerging class of two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) crystals recently gaining substantial interest, owing to its extraordinary properties absent in conventional 2D TMD layers. Most interestingly, it exhibits a thickness-dependent semiconducting-to-metallic transition, i.e., thick 2D PtSe2 layers, which are intrinsically metallic, become semiconducting with their thickness reduced below a certain point. Realizing bot
We survey the current status of single-molecule spectroscopy in the view point of theoretical aspects. After an explanation of basic concepts in single-molecule spectroscopy, we focus on the following topics: (1) line shape phenomena in disordered media, (2) photon counting statistics for time-dependent fluctuations in single-molecule spectroscopy, (3) fluorescence intensity fluctuations for nonergodic systems, (4) time-resolved single-molecule fluorescence for conformational dynamics of single
Supercapacitors with graphene oxide (GO) electrodes in a parallel plate configuration are studied with molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The full range of electrode oxidation from 0% (pure graphene) to 100% (fully oxidized GO) is investigated by decorating the graphene surface with hydroxyl groups. The ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMI + BF 4 − ) is examined as an electrolyte. Capacitance tends to decrease with increasing electrode oxidation, in agreement with se
Platinum ditelluride (PtTe2) is an emerging semimetallic two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) crystal with intriguing band structures and unusual topological properties. Despite much devoted efforts, scalable and controllable synthesis of large-area 2D PtTe2 with well-defined layer orientation has not been established, leaving its projected structure–property relationship largely unclarified. Herein, we report a scalable low-temperature growth of 2D PtTe2 layers on an area
Dynamics of a coarse-grained model for the room-temperature ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, couched in the united-atom site representation are studied via molecular dynamics simulations. The dynamically heterogeneous behavior of the model resembles that of fragile supercooled liquids. At or close to room temperature, the model ionic liquid exhibits slow dynamics, characterized by nonexponential structural relaxation and subdiffusive behavior. The structural relaxat
Graphene oxide supercapacitors in the parallel plate configuration are studied via molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The full range of electrode oxidation from 0 to 100% is examined by oxidizing the graphene surface with hydroxyl groups. Two different electrolytes, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMI(+)BF4(-)) as an ionic liquid and its 1.3 M solution in acetonitrile as an organic electrolyte, are considered. While the area-specific capacitance tends to decrease with increasing
