Professor Yong Jeong's research lab specializes in neuroscience and cognitive disorders, with a primary focus on the neural mechanisms underlying memory formation and dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease. The lab investigates the role of hippocampal-retrosplenial cortex interactions during slow-wave sleep, particularly the dynamics of sharp-wave ripples (SWRs), in mediating long-term memory consolidation. Using advanced neurophysiological techniques such as in vivo electrophysiology and optogenetics, the lab aims to uncover how disruptions in these oscillatory networks contribute to early memory deficits in neurodegenerative diseases. Their work bridges systems neuroscience with translational research to identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for early intervention in dementia.
