研究室紹介

Professor Yong-Seok Lee's research lab specializes in innate immunity and signal transduction mechanisms in invertebrates and prokaryotes, with a focus on protease cascades, pattern recognition, and receptor activation. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying immune responses, particularly the regulation of phenoloxidase activation in insects and the structural basis of signal transduction in response regulators and TLR2 ligands. Key research directions include the structural and functional characterization of key immune enzymes and receptors, such as Spätzle-processing enzymes, CheY-like receiver domains, and bacterial lipoproteins.

High triglyceride-glucose index is associated with early recurrent ischemic lesion in acute ischemic stroke
Ki‐Woong Nam, Hyung‐Min Kwon, Yong-Seok Lee
SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been associated with various metabolic, cardiovascular, and cerebrovascular diseases. We evaluated the association between the TyG index and early recurrent ischemic lesions (ERILs) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We included consecutive patients diagnosed with AIS between 2010 and 2016. ERILs were defined as new diffusion-weighted imaging lesions outside the initial symptomatic lesion area. The TyG index was calculated using the following f

BACKGROUND: Aspirin is a proven antiplatelet agent in acute ischemic stroke, and there are no current guidelines for other antiplatelet treatments. We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of cilostazol with aspirin in acute stroke. METHODS: Patients with measurable neurological deficits (NIHSS score ≤15) within 48 h of onset were randomly assigned to cilostazol (200 mg/day) or aspirin (300 mg/day) for 90 days. The primary endpoint was a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of 0-2 at 90 days. Ca

Immediate and optimal management seems to modify the risk of recurrent stroke after TIA. Cerebral microbleeds may be novel predictors of stroke recurrence, which needs further validation.

Leukoaraiosis is associated with pneumonia after acute ischemic stroke
Ki‐Woong Nam, Hyung‐Min Kwon, Jae‐Sung Lim, Yong-Seok Lee
SJR Q2BMC NeurologyOA

BACKGROUND: Stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) is common in patients with acute ischemic stroke, and several risk factors have been reported. However, the relationship between underlying leukoaraiosis (LA) and SAP has not been addressed. METHODS: We collected consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke within 24 h of symptom onset. SAP was defined as the lower respiratory tract infection within the first 7 days after stroke onset, according to the modified Centers for Disease Control and Prev

Clinical significance of D-dimer levels during acute period in ischemic stroke
Ki‐Woong Nam, Hyung‐Min Kwon, Yong-Seok Lee
SJR Q2Thrombosis JournalOA

BACKGROUND: Initial D-dimer level is a well-known prognostic parameter in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, there have been no studies on the clinical significance of follow-up D-dimer levels. In this study, we evaluated the association between initial and follow-up D-dimer levels and early neurological deterioration (END) in patients with AIS. METHODS: We included consecutive patients with AIS who had a positive initial D-dimer test (> 0.55 mg/L) between March 2021 and Novembe

Distinct association between cerebral arterial pulsatility and subtypes of cerebral small vessel disease
Ki‐Woong Nam, Hyung‐Min Kwon, Yong-Seok Lee
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Ipsilateral PI is closely associated with cSVD in patients with lacunar stroke. Furthermore, this association is different between subtypes of cSVD, which is suggestive of underlying pathophysiological differences.

Effect of obstructive sleep apnea on cerebrovascular compliance and cerebral small vessel disease
Woo‐Jin Lee, Keun‐Hwa Jung, Hyunwoo Nam, Yong-Seok Lee
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Reduced cerebrovascular compliance is the major mechanism of cerebral small vessel disease (SVD). Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) also promotes SVD development, but the underlying mechanism was not elucidated. We investigated the association among OSA, cerebrovascular compliance, and SVD parameters. This study retrospectively included individuals ≥ 50 years of age, underwent overnight polysomnographic (PSG) for the evaluation of OSA, and performed MRI and transcranial Doppler (TCD) within 12 month

Objective: To translate the English Qualiveen questionnaire which was developed to measure the specific impact of urinary problems on the quality of life of patients with neurogenic bladder into Korean and validate it. Method: First, we made the Korean version Qualiveen questionnaire through translation and cross-cultural adaptation followed by the international guideline. This process consisted of 6 steps including translation, reconciliation, back translation into English and debriefing. And t
