Professor Yongrae Park's research lab focuses on advancing diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making in breast and thyroid cancers through the integration of medical imaging, tumor immunology, and hematologic biomarkers. The lab investigates the role of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, changes in breast density over time, and the utility of contrast-enhanced imaging modalities such as CEDM and CEMRI in early cancer detection and surgical planning. Additionally, the lab explores predictive serum markers like CA19-9 and CA125 for peritoneal metastasis in gastric cancer, emphasizing personalized and precision oncology approaches. Their work bridges radiology, pathology, and clinical oncology to improve patient outcomes through non-invasive and minimally invasive diagnostic strategies.

CEDM demonstrated a diagnostic performance comparable with CEMRI in depicting index cancers, secondary cancers, and occult cancer in the contralateral breast. CEDM demonstrated similar changes in surgical management compared with CEMRI.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of image-guided marker-clip placement in axillary lymph nodes (ALNs) for breast cancer upon initial presentation and to assess the reliability of this method with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for axillary restaging after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). METHODS: Between June 2015 and August 2016, a marker clip was placed at a clinically positive ALN under ultrasonography (US) guidance before initiation of NAC in 20 patients.
Because of the high marginal recurrence rate, RFA shows an inferior outcome in comparison with surgical resection. Therefore, RFA should be considered for only selected patients with unresectable (by any means) disease or with high operative risk.
Perioperative outcomes in elderly patients who underwent LC seem to be influenced by the severity of gallbladder disease, and not by chronologic age. In octogenarians, LC should be performed at an earlier, uncomplicated stage of the disease whenever possible to improve perioperative outcomes.
