研究室紹介

Professor Yoo-sang Baek's research lab focuses on clinical and translational studies in dermatology and internal medicine, with a strong emphasis on inflammatory and autoimmune skin disorders, antimicrobial resistance in bacterial infections, and mental health in healthcare students. The lab investigates biomarkers for disease severity—such as D-dimer in autoimmune uveitis and cutaneous lupus—while also examining the epidemiology and progression of systemic lupus erythematosus in Asian populations. Additionally, the lab contributes to antimicrobial resistance surveillance, particularly in *Staphylococcus aureus* infections, and explores psychological well-being in medical education, highlighting burnout and depression among dental students. These interdisciplinary efforts aim to improve clinical decision-making, patient outcomes, and healthcare system resilience.

Severity of acute and chronic urticaria correlates with D-dimer level, but not C-reactive protein or total IgE
Yoo Sang Baek, Ja‐Young Jeon, Je Hyeong Kim, Chil Hwan Oh
SJR Q2Clinical and Experimental Dermatology

D-dimer level could be used as a marker of disease severity for both AU and CU. However, CRP and total IgE are not as reliable in predicting disease severity.

High levels of burnout and depression in a population of senior dental students in a school of dentistry in Korea
Eun-Jung Kwak, Young‐A Ji, Seung‐Ho Baek, Yoo Sang Baek
SJR Q1Journal of Dental SciencesOA

Burnout and depression levels among dental students in Korea were relatively high and intercorrelated. Burnout level was significantly associated with high academic workload. Students experiencing burnout were likely to be dissatisfied with their education programs and likely to need counseling.

Cutaneous lupus erythematosus and its association with systemic lupus erythematosus: A nationwide population‐based cohort study in Korea
Yoo Sang Baek, Se Ha Park, Jin-Ok Baek, Joo Young Roh, Hee Joo Kim
SJR Q1The Journal of Dermatology

Although lupus erythematosus is known to be more common among women of color, the study populations in previous reports were predominantly Caucasian and there is scarce information on Asian patients. Therefore, we performed a retrospective study using a nationwide population-based cohort in South Korea. The average annual incidence of cutaneous lupus was 4.36/100 000. Among 634 patients with cutaneous lupus, 20.8% had systemic disease: cutaneous lupus was diagnosed before systemic lupus in 4.26%

SJR Q1International Journal of Dermatology

BACKGROUND: Periodic investigations into patterns of antimicrobial resistance can help to optimize the efficacy of treatment and limit the development of resistance. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to update information on patterns of antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus aureus isolated from skin infections in South Korea. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed clinical information and in vitro antimicrobial resistance data for 965 clinical S. aureus isolates obtained from skin infecti

SJR Q2Clinical and Experimental Dermatology

BACKGROUND: The relationship between human papillomavirus (HPV) and Bowen disease (BD) is not fully understood. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the differences in HPV detection rates in BD samples across various body regions and analyse the expression patterns of p53, p16 and Ki-67 in relation to HPV presence. METHODS: Tissue samples from patients diagnosed with BD, confirmed through histopathology, were retrospectively collected. Next-generation sequencing was used for HPV DNA detection. Immunohisto

Low detection rate of human papillomavirus in patients with cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and keratoacanthoma

SJR Q2European Journal of Dermatology

Background: The role of human papillomavirus (HPV) in keratoacanthoma (KA) remains unclear. Objectives: To identify possible differences in HPV DNA, detected by next-generation sequencing (NGS), between KAs and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCCs), which may suggest different pathogenesis. Materials & Methods: We extracted DNA from formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue blocks from samples of 151 patients (105 with cSCCs and 46 with KAs). HPV DNA was detected using the NGS-base

Application of dynamic thermal imaging in a photocarcinogenesis mouse model
Yoo Sang Baek, Jaeyoung Kim, Geo Han, Chil Hwan Oh
SJR Q1International Journal of HyperthermiaOA

INTRODUCTION: In clinical practice and experimental settings, cutaneous premalignant and malignant lesions are commonly diagnosed by histopathological biopsy. However, this technique is invasive and results in functional or cosmetic defects. Dynamic thermal imaging is a non-invasive technique that quantifies the infra-red (IR) radiation emitted by a subject after the introduction of external thermal stimuli (such as heat or cold). METHODS: Forty hairless albino (Crl:SKH1-hr) mice were randomised
