研究室紹介
Professor Yoon Jong Hyun's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research with a strong emphasis on aging-related muscle disorders, regenerative medicine, and metabolic regulation. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying sarcopenia, particularly the role of lipid metabolism and stress responses in aged skeletal muscle, while also exploring the therapeutic potential of stem cells and growth factors from sources like Wharton’s jelly. Additionally, the lab contributes to biotechnology innovation through the development of biosensors and tunable laser systems, as well as metabolic engineering for sustainable production of bio-based chemicals. These diverse yet interconnected research directions reflect a commitment to advancing both fundamental biology and applied biotechnological solutions.

15Sarcopenia is characterized by decreased skeletal muscle mass and function with age. Aged muscles have altered lipid compositions; however, the role and regulation of lipids are unknown. Here we report that FABP3 is upregulated in aged skeletal muscles, disrupting homeostasis via lipid remodeling. Lipidomic analyses reveal that FABP3 overexpression in young muscles alters the membrane lipid composition to that of aged muscle by decreasing polyunsaturated phospholipid acyl chains, while increasin
Wharton's jelly is not only one of the most promising tissue sources for mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) but also a source of natural growth factors. To prove that we can get both natural growth factors and MSCs from Wharton's jelly, we compared cellular characteristics and the level of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) from samples using the explant culture method to those derived from the traditional enzymatic culture method. The levels of bFGF were 27.0 ± 11.7 ng/g on day 3, 15.6 ± 11.1 ng/
A tunable single-mode laser is obtained by using a weakly coupled cavity structure involved in a coaxially packaged Fabry-Perot laser diode. The cleaved end facet of the coupling fiber becomes an optical reflector and forms an external cavity with a laser facet. The single-mode oscillation condition is controlled and stabilized by tuning the operating temperature. The tuning range is about 10 nm with the side-mode suppression ratio of more than 27 dB when the temperature changes from 11.5 degree
There has been a significant global interest to produce bulk chemicals from renewable resources using engineered microorganisms. Large research programs have been launched by academia and industry towards this goal. Particularly, C4 chemicals such as succinic acid (SA) and 1,4-butanediol have been leading the path towards the commercialization of biobased technology with the effort of replacing chemical production. Here we present O-Succinyl-L-homoserine (SH) as a new, potentially important plat
The overall performance of three multiplex rRT-PCR assays for the concurrent detection of SARS-CoV-2, influenza A/B, and RSV was comparable. These kits will promote prompt differential diagnosis of COVID-19, influenza, and RSV infection in the COVID-19 pandemic era.
These results confirm that the RNF213 p.Arg4810Lys variant is not uncommon in the general Korean population and provide reference data for the association of this variant and MMD.
Persistent human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) is the major risk factor for cervical cancer. HPV16 intratypic variants differ in their geographical distribution and oncogenic potential. This study aimed to analyze the distribution of HPV16 variants and their association with cervical lesion histopathology in Korean women. In total, 133 HPV16-positive cervical samples from women admitted to Seoul National University Boramae Hospital were analyzed by sequencing E6, E7, and L1 genes and the long c
Different subtypes of dendritic cells (DC) influence the differentiation of naíve T lymphocytes into T helper type 1 (Th1) and Th2 effector cells. We evaluated the percentages of DC subtypes in peripheral blood from pregnant women (maternal blood) and their cord blood compared to the peripheral blood of healthy non pregnant women (control). Circulating DC were identified by flow cytometry as lineage (CD3, CD14, CD16, CD19, CD20, and CD56)-negative and HLA-DR-positive cells. Subtypes of DC were f
BACKGROUND: We analyzed neonatal factors that could affect hematopoietic variables of cord blood (CB) donated from Korean neonates. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: The numbers of total nucleated cells (TNCs), CD34+ cells, and CD34+ cells/TNCs of CB in neonates were compared according to sex, gestational age, birth weight, birth weight centile for gestational age, and ABO blood group. RESULTS: With 11,098 CB units analyzed, blood group O CB showed an increased number of TNCs, CD34+ cells, and CD34+ cel
BACKGROUND: The number of aldehyde dehydrogenase-bright (ALDH(br) ) cells has been suggested as a viable marker of hematopoietic stem cell function. We evaluated the suitability of ALDH(br) cell analysis in the quality assessment of postthaw cord blood (CB) units. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A total of 245 CB units were obtained for estimating the numbers of total nucleated cells (TNCs), CD34+ cells, ALDH(br) cells, ALDH(br) cells among CD34+ cells (CD34+ALDH(br) cells), CD34+ cells among ALDH(br)
