研究室紹介

Professor Young Dong Yoo's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research, integrating artificial intelligence and molecular biology to improve clinical outcomes in cancer and chronic diseases. The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer stem cell biology, protein post-translational modifications such as N-terminal arginylation, and signaling pathways in stem cell differentiation. A key emphasis is on applying machine learning and multi-center data analytics to predict patient survival and support clinical decision-making in oncology and transplantation.

SJR Q1International Journal of SurgeryOA

This is the first artificial-intelligence study with multi-center registry data to predict disease-free survival after the surgery of pancreatic cancer. The findings of this methodological study demonstrate that artificial intelligence can provide a valuable decision-support system for treating patients undergoing surgery for pancreatic cancer. However, at present, further studies are needed to demonstrate the actual benefit of applying machine learning algorithms in clinical practice.

Artificial intelligence for predicting survival following deceased donor liver transplantation: Retrospective multi-center study
Young‐Dong Yu, Kwang‐Sig Lee, Jong Man Kim, Je Ho Ryu, Jae Geun Lee, Kwang‐Woong Lee, Bong‐Wan Kim, Dong‐Sik Kim
SJR Q1International Journal of SurgeryOA

Machine learning algorithms such as the random forest were superior to conventional Cox regression and previously reported survival scores for predicting 1-month, 3-month, and 12-month survival following liver transplantation. Therefore, artificial intelligence may have significant potential in aiding clinical decision-making during liver transplantation, including matching donors and recipients.

Impact of Body Mass Index on Oncological Outcomes of Prostate Cancer Patients after Radical Prostatectomy
Young‐Dong Yu, Seok‐Soo Byun, Sang Eun Lee, Sung Kyu Hong
SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Abstract Obesity, often represented by higher body mass index (BMI), is not yet fully understood as a potential risk factor for poor clinical outcomes of prostate cancer (PCa) after radical prostatectomy (RP). This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between BMI and biochemical recurrence (BCR)-free survival in RP patients. This study retrospectively reviewed a total of 2.997 PCa patients who underwent RP between 2006 and 2017. The patients were stratified into three BMI groups according to

A single-center experience of over 300 cases of single-incision robotic cholecystectomy comparing the da Vinci SP with the Si/Xi systems
Yoo Jin Choi, Nguyen Thanh Sang, Hye-Sung Jo, Dong‐Sik Kim, Young‐Dong Yu
SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Minimally invasive surgery is usually more beneficial than open surgeries in various fields of surgery. With the newly developed Single-Port (SP) robotic surgical system, even single-site surgery has become easier to access. We compared single-incision robotic cholecystectomy between the Si/Xi and SP systems. This retrospective single-center study enrolled patients who underwent single-incision robotic cholecystectomy between July 2014 and July 2021. The clinical outcomes of the da Vinci Si/Xi a

Liver abscess developed after cadaveric liver transplantation due to ligation of an accessory right hepatic artery of the donor graft
Young‐Dong Yu, Dong‐Sik Kim, Geon‐Young Byun, Sung-Ock Suh
Journal of the Korean Surgical SocietyOA

It is important that extrahepatic arteries are identified precisely at the time of graft procurement. We present a case where the accessory right hepatic artery of the liver was ligated leading to postoperative liver abscess formation in the liver graft. A forty-seven-year-old female patient diagnosed with liver cirrhosis underwent orthotopic cadaveric liver transplantation due to altered mentality. The donor graft showed a variant of the hepatic artery anatomy where an accessory right hepatic a

SJR Q3International Journal of Surgery Case ReportsOA

INTRODUCTION: Hepatocellular carcinoma, the most frequent primary hepatic tumor, metastasizes in more than 50% of cases. However, parotid gland metastatic HCCs are very uncommon. We report a patient in whom the finding of a left parotid mass revealed metastatic HCC. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A thirty-six-year-old male presented with a round palpable left neck mass that persisted for 3 months. He had received right hemihepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Preoperative evaluation revealed a

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of ketorolac, a commonly used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) as patient controlled intravenous infusion analgesia (PCIA) for the patients underwent radical cystectomy (RC) due to bladder cancer regarding post-operational indices of recovery. Total seventy patients who underwent radical cystectomy for the treatment of bladder cancer were included in the study. 35 patients received ketorolac as PCIA (NSAIDS group) and 35 patients had morphine
