The use of deep learning and machine learning (ML) in medical science is increasing, particularly in the visual, audio, and language data fields. We aimed to build a new optimized ensemble model by blending a DNN (deep neural network) model with two ML models for disease prediction using laboratory test results. 86 attributes (laboratory tests) were selected from datasets based on value counts, clinical importance-related features, and missing values. We collected sample datasets on 5145 cases,

SJR Q3Acta Haematologica

<b><i>Background:</i></b> The Advanced Lung Cancer Inflammation Index (ALI, body mass index × albumin/neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio) has been demonstrated to be a prognostic factor of survival in some solid cancers. We retrospectively investigated the usefulness of the ALI to predict chemotherapy response and survival in 212 patients with diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) treated with R-CHOP (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone) ch

BACKGROUND: Because many physicians seem reluctant to recommend splenectomy for elderly patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), we investigated the safety and efficacy of splenectomy and the predictive factors for response in these patients. METHODS: 184 patients with primary ITP were retrospectively analyzed based on age at splenectomy: an elderly group (≥60 years, n = 52) and a younger group (<60 years, n = 132). RESULTS: There was no difference in the response rate of elderly versus youn

Diagnosis and management of thrombocytopenia in pregnancy
Young Hoon Park
SJR Q2Blood ResearchOA

Thrombocytopenia, defined as platelet count <150×109/L, is frequently observed by physicians during pregnancy, with an incidence of approximately 10% of all pregnancies. Most of the cases of thrombocytopenia in pregnancy are due to gestational thrombocytopenia, which does not confer an increased risk of maternal bleeding. However, because other causes can be associated with life-threatening events, such as severe bleeding, that can affect to maternal and fetal outcomes, differentiatin

SJR Q2Blood ResearchOA

Despite the availability of therapies to treat patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), there is currently little data from randomized trials to assist clinicians in managing patients. The evidence-based guidelines of the Korean Society of Hematology Aplastic Anemia Working Party (KSHAAWP) are intended to support patients and physicians in the management of ITP. Experts from the KSHAAWP discussed and described this guideline according to the current treatment situation for ITP in Korea and f

Factor V Deficiency in Korean Patients: Clinical and Laboratory Features, Treatment, and Outcome
Young Hoon Park, Joo Han Lim, Hyeon Gyu Yi, Moon Hee Lee, Chul Soo Kim
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

Due to rarity of factor V (FV) deficiency, there have been only a few case reports in Korea. We retrospectively analysed the clinical-laboratory features of FV deficiency in 10 Korean patients. Between January 1987 and December 2013, 10 case reports published in a Korean journal or proceedings of Korea Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis were reviewed. Severity is defined as mild (> 5% of factor activity), moderate (1%-5%), and severe (< 1%). The median age at diagnosis, six males and four fema

SJR Q1Korean journal of anesthesiologyOA

BACKGROUND: Spinal anesthesia causes hypotension and bradycardia due to sympathetic nerve block and it is difficult to predict the level of sensory block and the duration of blockade. Recent studies have reported that intravenous phenylephrine can reduce the rostral spread of spinal anesthesia in pregnant women. We think a phenylephrine infusion will be useful for maintaining the baseline blood pressure by reducing the rostral spread of spinal anesthesia during the elective surgery of non-obstet

SJR Q1Cancer MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Recognizing intolerance or resistance to hydroxyurea (HU), which is related to the high risk of a disease transformation and reduced survival in essential thrombocythemia (ET), is crucial to making a reasonable decision about second-line therapy. We assessed the prognostic impact of the modified European LeukemiaNet (mELN) criteria used in a recent MAJIC-ET trial by analyzing the incidence of resistance or intolerance to HU and the survival outcome compared with those of the ELN crit

Young Hoon Park, Weon Taek Seo
KRIBB Repository

Production of cephalosporin C was investigated in a fluidized-bed bioreactor using bioparticles of Cephalosporium acremonium. Bioparticles were developed by forming a biofilm of growing hyphae around celite particles which contained spores of the microorganism. Production of the antibiotic was significantly improved by using bioparticles over the free mycelial culture, possibly due to the enhanced mass transfer capacity of the bioreactor system and successive generation of highly productive morp
