Professor Young-jae Choi's research lab specializes in the development of advanced nanomaterials and biosensors for biomedical applications, with a strong focus on early cancer diagnosis using ultrasensitive, label-free detection methods. The lab integrates nanotechnology, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and functional nanomaterials—such as gold nanopillars and metal nanoframes—to enable high-sensitivity detection of microRNAs and other biomarkers. Additionally, the lab explores the synthesis and magnetic characterization of complex oxide materials, including double perovskites, for potential applications in spintronics and biomedicine. Clinical research on soft tissue tumors, such as lipomas and Dupuytren’s disease, further highlights the lab’s translational approach to rare and challenging musculoskeletal conditions.

Effects of different annealing atmospheres on magnetic properties in La2CoMnO6 single crystals

We have successfully synthesized the high-quality single crystals of double perovskite La2CoMnO6 by flux method and investigated the effects of different annealing conditions on the magnetic properties. In an as-grown crystal, ferromagnetic order along the c axis arises below 204 K, and the spin-glass-type behavior inherent from ionic disorders is also observed.
