Professor Young-Ju Lee's research lab specializes in translational biomedical engineering and clinical oncology, focusing on advanced medical imaging, liver transplantation surgery, and molecular oncology. The lab investigates innovative imaging techniques—such as multi-echo MRI and FDG-PET/CT—for accurate quantification of hepatic fat and tumor metabolism, while also exploring novel therapeutic strategies for drug-resistant cancers using HDAC inhibitors like SAHA. A significant emphasis is placed on improving surgical outcomes in living-donor liver transplantation, particularly in complex anatomical variants such as anomalous portal venous branching. The lab integrates clinical practice with rigorous mathematical modeling to enhance the understanding and treatment of liver diseases and cancer.

OBJECTIVE: Tamoxifen is currently used for the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer patients, but acquired resistance to tamoxifen is a critical problem in breast cancer therapy. Suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) is a prototype of the newly developed HDAC inhibitor. Right lobe living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is often not attempted in donors with anomalous portal venous branching (APVB). The authors describe their experience with portal vein (PV) reconstruction in 17 cases of APVB in right lobe LDLT. In this paper, we discuss convergence results for general (successive) subspace correction methods for solving nearly singular systems of equations. We provide parameter independent estimates under appropriate assumptions on the subspace solvers and space decompositions.
