Professor Young Nam Kwon's research lab focuses on neuromuscular disorders, aging-related muscle decline (sarcopenia), and autoimmune demyelinating diseases such as MOG antibody-associated disease (MOGAD). The lab investigates the neurophysiological and immunological mechanisms underlying sarcopenia and neuromuscular junction dysfunction in aging, while also exploring the clinical implications of autoantibody testing—particularly MOG-IgG and anti-MuSK antibodies—in diagnosing and managing autoimmune neurological conditions. The lab integrates clinical research with molecular and translational approaches, including transcriptome analysis of medicinal arthropods for novel antimicrobial peptide discovery.

The prevalence of sarcopenia was different among groups. The prevalence rate in obese women was lower than that in non-obese women. SO is a new category of obesity in older adults with high adiposity coupled with low muscle mass.
