研究室紹介

Professor Young Su Park's research lab specializes in gastrointestinal diseases, with a primary focus on *Helicobacter pylori* pathogenesis, antimicrobial resistance, and its impact on eradication therapy outcomes in the Korean population. The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, particularly clarithromycin and amoxicillin resistance, and explores the role of virulence factors such as *cagA* and *vacA* in gastric carcinogenesis. Additionally, the lab examines the gut microbiota's role in colorectal cancer pathogenesis, including microbial dysbiosis and extracellular vesicles derived from gut microbes. The research integrates clinical gastroenterology with molecular microbiology and advanced imaging techniques for gastric cancer staging.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) affects the efficacy of eradication therapy. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of primary and secondary resistance of H. pylori isolates to antibiotics and to characterize the risk factors associated with antimicrobial resistance in Korea. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was performed during the period of 2003-2012. Primary resistance was evaluated from 347 patients without any history of eradication, an

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The prevalence of gastric cancer and Helicobacter pylori infection is unacceptably high in Korea. This study was performed to evaluate the prevalence of atrophic gastritis (AG) and intestinal metaplasia (IM) and to identify their risk factors with respect to H. pylori virulence factors, and environmental and host factors, in Korean population without significant gastroduodenal disease. METHODS: The study cohort consisted of 389 subjects (> or = 16 years). AG and IM were score

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) for the locoregional staging of gastric cancer. EUS and computed tomography (CT) are valuable tools for the preoperative evaluation of gastric cancer. With the introduction of new therapeutic options and the recent improvements in CT technology, further evaluation of the diagnostic accuracy of EUS and MDCT is needed. METHODS: In total, 277 p

Change in Antibiotic Resistance of Helicobacter pylori Strains and the Effect of A2143G Point Mutation of 23S rRNA on the Eradication of H. pylori in a Single Center of Korea

SJR Q2Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology

Clarithromycin resistance of H. pylori, which determined the efficacy of H. pylori eradication of proton pump inhibitor triple regimen, was found to be increased in a single center study. A2143G was an important 23S rRNA mutation associated with clarithromycin resistance and affected the H. pylori eradication efficacy.

The human microbiota comprises trillions of microbes, and the relationship between cancer and microbiota is very complex. The impact of fecal microbiota alterations on colorectal cancer (CRC) pathogenesis is emerging. This study analyzed changes in the microbial composition in CRC subjects with both fecal microbiota and gut microbe-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs). From August 2017 to August 2018, 70 CRC patients and 158 control subjects were enrolled in the study. Metagenomic profiling of f

SJR Q2Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology

These results show that there is institutional difference of antibiotic resistance of H. pylori, explaining the institutional difference of eradication rate of H. pylori. The resistance to clarithromycin seems to be an important determinant for the eradication by proton pump inhibitor triple therapy but resistance to amoxicillin does not have any effect.

Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) have been well-established methods of treating upper gastrointestinal neoplasia. The aim of this study was to identify the safety and effectiveness of endoscopic treatment for gastric neoplasia within a 2-day hospital stay.Between 2004 and 2015, a total of 914 patients with gastric neoplasia were treated with EMR or ESD within 2 days of hospitalization. The neoplasia sites, en bloc resection rates, pathology, local res

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To minimize injury, less invasive surgery including laparascopic surgery and endoscopic mucosal resection are increasingly used for the treatment of gastric cancer nowadays. Therefore, accurate preoperative staging is important to decide adequate treatment modality. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is reported to be an accurate diagnostic modality to evaluate the depth of tumor invasion. Especially, evaluation of T-2 stage is important to determine operation. We tried to reveal
