Professor Young Yeon Oh's research lab specializes in molecular oncology and thyroid cancer pathology, with a focus on identifying genetic alterations and molecular markers in thyroid and breast cancers. The lab investigates clinicopathological correlations of key oncogenes such as HER-2, EGFR, cyclin D1, and BRAF mutations to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies. Their work integrates molecular pathology techniques—including immunohistochemistry, CISH, and next-generation sequencing—to understand tumor progression and metastasis. The lab also emphasizes translational research, aiming to bridge molecular findings with clinical outcomes in well-differentiated thyroid carcinomas and breast cancer.

Background : Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common malignant tumor of the thyroid and BRAF (V600E) is the most frequent genetic alteration in PTCs. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of BRAF mutation, especially in very small PTCs.
