研究室紹介

Professor Youngguk Ko's research lab specializes in interventional vascular medicine, with a primary focus on peripheral arterial disease, particularly femoropopliteal and vertebral artery interventions. The lab investigates endovascular therapies such as drug-coated balloons, stenting, and angioplasty, with an emphasis on optimizing outcomes using advanced imaging guidance like intravascular ultrasound. Research also extends to identifying genetic and clinical risk factors for acute myocardial infarction and improving post-procedural medical management in peripheral artery disease patients.

Stenosis of extracranial vertebral artery (VA) is not an infrequent lesion, and it can pose a significant clinical problem. However, the standard treatment for a significant VA stenosis has still not been established. Here in this study, we report our experiences of VA stenting in 25 patients (age 56.2 +/- 15.2 years, male 76%). The patients had comorbidities as follows: DM (36%), hypertension (64%), Takayasu's (12%) and Behcet's diseases (4%). There were combined involvement of other vessels su

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Drug-coated balloons (DCBs) have demonstrated favourable outcomes following endovascular therapy for femoropopliteal artery (FPA) disease. However, uncertainty remains whether the use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) can improve the outcomes of DCBs. METHODS: This prospective, multicentre, randomized trial, conducted at seven centres in South Korea, compared the outcomes of IVUS-guided vs. angiography-guided angioplasty for treating FPA disease with DCBs. Patients were ass

The majority of Korean patients with PAD exhibited conventional risk factors, such as male sex, older age, diabetes, and hypertension with coexisting CAD. Complex lesions were frequently treated with endovascular therapy. However, the rate of adherence to guidelines regarding post-procedural medical treatment requires improvement.
