Professor Youngguk Ko's research lab specializes in interventional vascular medicine, with a primary focus on peripheral arterial disease, particularly femoropopliteal and vertebral artery interventions. The lab investigates endovascular therapies such as drug-coated balloons, stenting, and angioplasty, with an emphasis on optimizing outcomes using advanced imaging guidance like intravascular ultrasound. Research also extends to identifying genetic and clinical risk factors for acute myocardial infarction and improving post-procedural medical management in peripheral artery disease patients.

15Subintimal angioplasty combined with stenting was feasible, with a high technical success rate and better short and midterm results for revascularization of long femoropopliteal occlusions than the conventional intraluminal approach.
Stenosis of extracranial vertebral artery (VA) is not an infrequent lesion, and it can pose a significant clinical problem. However, the standard treatment for a significant VA stenosis has still not been established. The majority of Korean patients with PAD exhibited conventional risk factors, such as male sex, older age, diabetes, and hypertension with coexisting CAD. Complex lesions were frequently treated with endovascular therapy. However, the rate of adherence to guidelines regarding post-procedural medical treatment requires improvement.
Prophylactic intravenous infusion of nicorandil did not decrease the incidence of CIN in patients with renal dysfunction undergoing coronary angiography.
We found, for the first time, that PAPP-A IVS6+95 C allele is an independent risk factor for AMI even after adjustment for traditional risk factors. The determination of such genotype contributing to AMI could provide a new tool for identifying high-risk individuals.
