Professor Youngsoo Jang's research lab focuses on environmental and behavioral economics, with a strong emphasis on sustainable resource management, consumer behavior in food markets, and the macroeconomic implications of policy interventions. The lab investigates greenhouse gas emissions in fisheries, the impact of school closures on intergenerational mobility, and the role of branding and traceability in seafood markets. It also explores how tax and transfer policies affect labor supply and economic fluctuations, particularly in heterogeneous household contexts. The research integrates econometric modeling, consumer survey analysis, and general equilibrium frameworks to address real-world economic and environmental challenges.

15Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from the offshore fisheries industry in the Republic of Korea (Korea) were examined in response to growing concerns about global warming and the contribution of emissions from different industrial sectors. Fuel usage and GHG emissions (CO2, CH4, N2O) were analysed using the 'Tier 1' method provided by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) from the offshore fishery, which is the primary domestic seafood production sector in Korea. In 2013, fuel usage
This paper quantitatively investigates the medium- and long-term macroeconomic and distributional consequences of school closures through intergenerational channels. The model economy is a dynastic overlapping-generations general equilibrium model in which schools, in the form of public education investments, complement parental investments in producing children’s human capital. We find that unexpected school closure shocks have long-lasting adverse effects on macroeconomic aggregates and reduce
Today , the consumer is more careful in buying goods , invests more time in collecting relevant information to avoid any potential danger , and restricts from potential impulse buying . To react this consumer ’ s carefulness , the seafood brands provide much information including the origin labeling system , the traceability , the food ’ s safety & hygiene . Also the branding by region or company is pursued . Like that , a seafood brand ’ s importance is increased , but there lack few researches
This paper studies how tax‐and‐transfer progressivity influences aggregate fluctuations when interacting with household heterogeneity. Using a simple static model of the extensive margin labor supply, we analytically characterize how a degree of progressivity influences differential labor supply responses to aggregate conditions across heterogeneous households. We then build a quantitative dynamic general equilibrium model with both idiosyncratic and aggregate productivity shocks and show that i
Abstract I study how credit and default affect optimal health insurance, constructing a life‐cycle model of health investment with a strategic default option on emergency room bills and financial debts. The model is calibrated to the U.S. economy and used to compare the optimal policy for Medicaid by the availability of the default option and credit. I find that strategic default induces the optimal policy to be more redistributive. With (Without) the option, the optimal income threshold for Med
This study aimed to segment Chinese fisheries consumer market by means of cluster analysis based on Shanghai region consumers. The survey is conducted to 350 shanghai people on March 17-21 in 2014 and investigate demographic characteristics and consumer's behaviors unique to each segmented market by preference, labelling, quality, price, safety. The result of cluster analysis identified four market segments such as Catering type market, Worth pursuing type market, Substance pursuing type market,
This study presents a comparative analysis on mackerel distribution process and price formation process, and investigation of price and margin between traditional markets and Large-scale discount store distribution channel. Through this, the study investigated distribution efficiency of each channel, and examined whether a difference of distribution efficiency leads to a difference of performance through the investigation of a difference of function and role between members of a wholesale market
The major part of non-commercial food service is food service for school which has no any objective quality standards. Each school has different standard when they buy seafood for SFS(School Food Service). The research purpose is whether or not the extrinsic cues of the seafood such as price, the safety standards, etc or the intrinsic cues such as fishy smell, the hardiness of fish meat, others have any effect on the seafood evaluation when school nutritionist purchase it, for more objective bas
This study is to obtain the order of the sensitivity of importing marine products with regard to non - economic aspects of considerations under the free - trade. Three criteria are extracted considering various aspects of Korean fishery society. They are the socio - economic, resource - environmental, and policy - appropriateness criterion. The Analytic Hierachy Process(AHP) is used to obtain the estimates of weights among these criteria. First of all, the weights between economic and non - econ
Prior research on the fishery village tourism has mainly focused on the development and activities in the field, but lacking in strategic approaches. To overcome such a limitation, this study intends to measure visitors' authenticity on Gijang Anchovy Festival, test reliability and validity of the measurement items, and to identify the relationships among variables by a regression analysis of visitors' satisfaction. Authenticity means the value of existence. The types of tourism in fishing villa
The purpose of the study are summarized as follows: First, it has researched the new functions of middleman in Fisheries Port Market. Second, the new functions which middleman have to perform in Fisheries Port Market consist of the origin function, marketing function, logistics function. The origin function consists of the discrimination of fish species and freshness, making the price by auction, financing, etc. Marketing function consists of various species assortment from not only fisheries po
