Professor Yu Jung Kim's research lab specializes in biomedical and life sciences, with a focus on molecular mechanisms underlying disease progression and immune responses in both insects and humans. The lab investigates host-pathogen interactions, particularly Toll-like receptor functions in insect immunity, and explores molecular biomarkers for predicting cancer relapse and treatment outcomes. Additionally, the lab examines science education processes, especially students' conceptual understanding in science through graphical representation and analogical reasoning, aiming to improve science instruction for gifted learners. The integration of clinical research with educational psychology underscores the lab’s interdisciplinary approach to advancing both medical science and science education.

Although it is known that the Drosophila Toll-7 receptor plays a critical role in antiviral autophagy, its function in other insects has not yet been reported. Here, we have identified a Toll-like receptor 7 gene, TmToll-7, in the coleopteran insect T. molitor and examined its potential role in antibacterial and antifungal immunity. We showed that TmToll-7 expression was significantly induced in larvae 6 h after infection with Escherichia coli and Staphyloco

PURPOSE: Pathologic stage is the most important predictive factor of relapse in gastric cancer after curative resection. However, patients with the same stage often have different risks of relapse. Here, we investigated whether the expressions of molecular markers can supplement the current staging system in terms of relapse prediction. PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred and nine stage III or IV (M0) patients who had received curative gastrectomy followed by adjuvant 5-fluorouracil and cisplatin

Amphiregulin (AREG) is an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) ligand. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of baseline plasma AREG levels in KRAS, NRAS, and BRAF wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) on treatment outcome with palliative first-line cetuximab + FOLFIRI chemotherapy. Chemotherapy outcomes were analyzed based on baseline plasma AREG levels. The clinical findings were further validated using an in vitro model of CRC. Among 35 patients, the progression-free

This study aimed to present a new approach to predict to delirium admitted to the acute palliative care unit. To achieve this, this study employed machine learning model to predict delirium in patients in palliative care and identified the significant features that influenced the model. A multicenter, patient-based registry cohort study in South Korea between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2020. Delirium was identified by reviewing the medical records based on the criteria of the Diagnostic a
