研究室紹介

Professor Yun-Jung Hwang's research lab specializes in critical care medicine, with a primary focus on sepsis and septic shock management in emergency settings. The lab investigates biomarkers such as CRP and procalcitonin for prognostic prediction, evaluates compliance with sepsis bundles (e.g., Surviving Sepsis Campaign 3-hour bundle) across different admission times, and explores the impact of electrolyte imbalances—particularly chloride abnormalities—on clinical outcomes. The lab also examines triage tools like qSOFA in guiding early sepsis intervention and improving patient outcomes.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), and their combination for mortality in patients with septic shock. This multicenter, prospective, observational study was conducted between November 2015 and December 2017. A total of 1,772 septic shock patients were included, and the overall 28-day mortality was 20.7%. Although both CRP and PCT were elevated in the non-survivor group, only CRP had statistical significance (11.9 mg/

BACKGROUND: Nighttime hospital admission is often associated with increased mortality risk in various diseases. This study investigated compliance rates with the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) 3-h bundle for daytime and nighttime emergency department (ED) admissions and the clinical impact of compliance on mortality in patients with septic shock. METHODS: We conducted an observational study using data from a prospective, multicenter registry for septic shock provided by the Korean Shock Society

OBJECTIVE: We investigated the effects of a quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA)-negative result (qSOFA score <2 points) at triage on the compliance with sepsis bundles among patients with sepsis who presented to the emergency department (ED). METHODS: Prospective sepsis registry data from 11 urban tertiary hospital EDs between October 2015 and April 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who met the Third International Consensus Definitions for Sepsis and Septic Shock criteri

OBJECTIVES: Hyperchloraemia is associated with poor clinical outcomes in sepsis patients; however, this association is not well studied for hypochloraemia. We investigated the prevalence of chloride imbalance and the association between hypochloraemia and 28-day mortality in ED patients with septic shock. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of data from 11 multicentre EDs in the Republic of Korea prospectively collected from October 2015 to April 2018 was performed. Initial chloride levels were ca
