Professor Yun-Sook Lee's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research with a strong emphasis on vascular biology, immune regulation, and anesthetic pharmacology. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying sepsis and endothelial integrity, explores the role of signaling pathways such as Wnt/β-catenin in T-cell differentiation and autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, and examines the clinical impact of anesthetic adjuvants—such as ketamine, lidocaine, and intrathecal opioids—on postoperative outcomes and neurological responses. A recurring theme is the development of targeted therapeutic strategies to improve critical care and surgical anesthesia outcomes.

We experienced a case of malignant hyperthermia (MH) in 6-year-old boy during anesthesia induction for strabismus surgery. It has been generally reported that sevoflurane can induce the delayed onset of MH in the absence of succinylcholine. Our case of MH was elicited after about 2-3 min of sevoflurane administration with N(2)O, O(2) and rocuronium. However, we successfully treated the patient by early recognition of his condition and administering symptomatic treatment and dantrolene.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most frequent postoperative complications after liver transplantation (LT). Increased serum ammonia levels due to the liver disease itself may affect postoperative renal function. This study aimed to compare the incidence of postoperative AKI according to preoperative serum ammonia levels in patients after LT. Medical records from 436 patients who underwent LT from January 2010 to February 2020 in a single university hospital were retrospectively reviewed.
