研究室紹介

Professor Yunju Bang's research lab specializes in clinical and translational cancer genetics, with a focus on hereditary breast and gastric cancers. The lab investigates pathogenic variants in high-risk cancer genes such as BRCA1/2 and RAS oncogenes, aiming to improve genetic diagnosis, risk assessment, and personalized treatment strategies. They also explore innovative surgical techniques, such as indocyanine green-hyaluronic acid for non-palpable breast lesion localization, to enhance clinical outcomes. Their work bridges molecular genetics with clinical oncology to guide patient management and family counseling.

PURPOSE: Double heterozygosity (DH) for BRCA1 and BRCA2 variant is very rare with only a few cases reported, and most those in Caucasians. In this article, we present seven unrelated cases of DH for BRCA1/2 identified from a single institution in Korea, and describe the characteristics and phenotype of DH individuals compared to those with a single BRCA variant. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 27,678 patients diagnosed with breast cancer and surgically treated at Samsung Medical Cente

In order to explore the role of ras oncogene in gastric carcinomas from Korean patients, we examined the frequency of point mutations all three ras oncogenes (Ki-, Ha-, and N-ras). A total of 57 DNA samples were prepared from 3 gastric carcinoma cell lines, 10 malignant ascites, and 44 frozen gastric tumor tissues. Exons 1 and 2 of each ras oncogene were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and analyzed by single strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) and direct sequencing. Mutated ras

Purpose The incidence of early tumor detection is increasing due to popularization of breast cancer screening and the development of imaging techniques. Thus, suitable preoperative localization is required for proper diagnosis and treatment of non-palpable breast lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of indocyanine green (ICG)-hyaluronic acid (HA) mixture for lesion localization compared to activated charcoal. Methods This was a multicenter, randomized, open-

Comparison of Recurrence Rate Between Re-Excision With Radiotherapy and Radiotherapy-Only Groups in Surgical Margin Involvement of In Situ Carcinoma
Jun Hee Lee, Hyunjun Lee, Yoon Ju Bang, Jai Min Ryu, Se Kyung Lee, Jonghan Yu, Jeong Eon Lee, Seok Won Kim, Seok Jin Nam, Byung Joo Chae
SJR Q2Journal of Breast CancerOA

The IBTR rate did not differ between the excision with RTx and RTx-only groups when DCIS was confirmed at the resection margins. This suggests that RTx and close observation without re-excision could be an option, even in cases where minimal involvement of DCIS is confirmed on surgical resection.

We presented clinical evidence for the reclassification of BRCA1:c.5017_5019del as a likely pathogenic variant (LPV). Reclassification as LPV could result in the prophylactic treatment and medical surveillance of probands, family testing recommendations, and appropriate genetic counseling of their families.

The Incidence and Clinicopathologic Characteristics of Patients Who Had False-Positive Fine-Needle Aspiration Results for Papillary Thyroid Cancer
Yoon Ju Bang, Kyorim Back, Jung‐Han Kim, Jun‐Ho Choe, Jee Soo Kim
Journal of Endocrine SurgeryOA

Purpose: Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is a well-established method for diagnosis of thyroid tumors. However, FNA sometimes fails to distinguish benign thyroid nodules from papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence and clinicopathologic characteristics of patients who had thyroidectomy due to consistent findings of PTC in FNA but turned out to bear no evidence of malignancy in surgically removed thyroids. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 10,776 pa

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the number of lymph nodes removed in breast cancer patients who undergo axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Methods: We included patients who were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and cytology with proven involved axillary node metastasis at diagnosis and treated with NAC followed by curative surgery at Samsung Medical Center between January 2007 and December 2015. The primary
