15Endovascular therapy for stenotic lesions in patients with TA is safe and effective when disease activity is strictly controlled with immunosuppressive treatment.
BACKGROUND: Since their first description in mammalian cells, more than 2500 microRNA molecules have been predicted or verified within human cells. Recently, extracellular microRNAs have been described, protected from degradation by specialized packaging in extracellular vesicles or RNA-binding proteins. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We will discuss recent data regarding circulating microRNAs, their potential role as novel biomarkers and intercellular communicators, as well as future challenges of stud
Statins exacerbate exercise-induced skeletal muscle injury. Muscle-specific microRNAs (myomiRs) increase in plasma after prolonged exercise, but the patterns of myomiRs release after statin-associated muscle injury have not been examined. We examined the relationships between statin exposure, in vitro and in vivo muscle contraction, and expression of candidate circulating myomiRs. We measured plasma levels of myomiRs, circulating microRNA-1 (c-miR-1), c-miR-133a, c-miR-206, and c-miR-499-5p from
Triple antiplatelet therapy including cilostazol seems to be more effective at preventing in-stent neointimal hyperplasia than a dual antiplatelet regimen.
BACKGROUND: It is a matter of debate whether metabolic syndrome (MS) improves cardiovascular risk prediction beyond the risk associated with its individual components. The present study examined the association of MS score with high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), resistin, adiponectin, and angiographic coronary artery disease (CAD) severity according to the presence of DM. In addition, the predictive value of various clinical and biochemical parameters were analyz
BACKGROUND: The influence of intensive glucose control in diabetic patients on the macrovascular outcomes is controversial. Thus, this study aimed to elucidate the effect of preprocedural hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) on clinical outcomes after endovascular therapy for lower extremity artery disease (LEAD) in diabetic patients. METHODS: Diabetic patients were enrolled from the retrospective cohorts of a Korean multicenter endovascular therapy registry and were divided according to the HbA1c level durin
Importance: P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy after dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT; a P2Y12 inhibitor plus aspirin) for a brief duration has recently emerged as an attractive alternative for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with a drug-eluting stent. Objective: To investigate whether P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy after 3 months of DAPT was noninferior to 12 months of DAPT following PCI with a drug-eluting stent. Design, Setting, and Participants: The Short-Term Dual Antiplat
Contributors to a hypertensive response to exercise (HTR) according to sex and age have not been fully evaluated. The authors analyzed a database of supine bicycle exercise stress echocardiography findings. HTR was defined as peak systolic blood pressure ≥210 mmHg for men and ≥190 mmHg for women during exercise. A total of 797 patients (306 [38%] women) were analyzed, with a mean age of 64 ± 10 years. Female sex, hypertension; higher left ventricular ejection fraction, effective arterial elastan
Aberrant production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) leads to tissue damage accumulation, which is associated with a myriad of human pathologies. Although several sensors have been developed for ROS quantification, their applications for ROS-related human physiologies and pathologies still remain problematic due to the unstable nature of ROS. Herein, we developed Trx1-cpYFP-fRMsr (TYfR), a genetically-encoded fluorescent biosensor with the remarkable specificity and sensitivity toward fMetRO (fr
Acute doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy based on early apoptosis can be assessed and imaged with targeted ultrasound imaging using A5MB in rats.
High levels of microparticles (MPs) circulate in the blood of patients with atherosclerotic diseases where they can serve as potential biomarkers of vascular injury and cardiovascular outcome. We used virtual histology intravascular ultrasound (VH-IVUS) to evaluate the relationship between the levels of circulating MPs and the coronary plaque composition in patients with stable angina. We included 35 patients with stable angina (22 men, age 64 ± 9 years) and a de novo target lesion. Preintervent
Subintimal angioplasty is a simple and safe alternative to conventional intraluminal angioplasty for the recanalization of diffuse long femoropopliteal occlusions. However, long-term patency rates are unsatisfactory despite the high initial technical success rates. Two cases of occluded left superficial femoral arteries are presented in which subintimal angioplasty with proximal stent implantation was successfully performed. Self-expanding nitinol stents were placed at the proximal part of subin
