15BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Ultrasound has been used successfully to differentiate benign and malignant breast lesions. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between ultrasound and prognostic indicators in breast cancer such as histological type, tumor grade, and biological markers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ultrasound findings (shape, margin, orientation, boundary, echo pattern, posterior acoustic feature, and presence of calcifications) of 458 breast cancers were analyzed and corre
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the distinctive computed tomographic(CT) features of pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae (KLA). METHODS: 114 PLA patients (62 men, 52 women, age range 25-89 years, mean age 60.9 years) with positive yield of blood or pus cultures were divided into 2 groups; KLA group (n = 58) and non-KLA group (n = 56). We retrospectively reviewed the CT images. The independent-sample t-test, X2 test, or Fisher's exact test were used with SPSS for windows versio
Microvascular ultrasonographic imaging is the most recent and unique Doppler ultrasound technique. It uses an advanced clutter filter that can remove clutter artifacts and preserve the low-velocity microvascular flow signal. The potential advantages of microvascular ultrasonography are its superiority in detection and visualization of the small blood vessels in tissues, providing radiologists with more information on the vascular structures. Therefore, it has shown particular value in the clinic
Half of children with HSK have renal complications or extrarenal diseases or syndromes. The incidence is higher in younger children, and the spectrum of complications, diseases, and syndromes differs from those reported in previous studies of adults with HSK. Children with HSK, especially young children, therefore require follow-up renal examinations and extensive extrarenal workup.
The MOD and the MMT are reliable criteria to diagnose acute appendicitis in children. An MOD > 0.57 cm and an MMT > 0.22 cm are the optimal criteria.
Infectious diseases precede a significant proportion of acute ischemic strokes in children. Here, we report a case of acute ischemic stroke in a 3-year-old girl with a Mycoplasma pneumonia-associated respiratory tract infection. She developed an acquired prothrombotic state of protein S deficiency and had increased fibrinogen and fibrinogen degradation product levels and increased titer of antinuclear antibodies. However, these conditions were completely alleviated at the 1-month follow-up exami
CDIs such as the CCI and CAI may be potentially useful to detect and estimate repair for pectus excavatum.
Gastrointestinal (GI) emergencies in neonates and infants encompass from the beginning to the end of the GI tract. Both congenital and acquired conditions can cause various GI emergencies in neonates and infants. Given the overlapping or nonspecific clinical findings of many different neonatal and infantile GI emergencies and the unique characteristics of this age group, appropriate imaging is key to accurate and timely diagnosis while avoiding unnecessary radiation hazard and medical costs. In
Below the shielded surface, thyroid shielding significantly reduced the superficial radiation dose of the neck without a remarkable noise increase while increasing CT attenuation.
A well-known CT finding for ACS, an increased AT ratio, proved not specific for ACS in pediatric patients; rather, IVC compression, basal lung atelectasis, compromised renal perfusion, and ascites should raise suspicion for ACS in children.
Here we report the first case of a Korean infant with a cloverleaf-shaped craniosynostosis, in which the diagnosis of Beare-Stevenson syndrome was suspected upon observation of the typical morphological features. This infant exhibited craniofacial anomalies, ocular proptosis, cutis gyrata, acanthosis nigricans, prominent umbilical stump, furrowed palms and soles, hypospadia, and sacral skin tag coupled with dermal sinus tract. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed that the patient also had n
Central necrosis, perinodal infiltration, and peripheral rim enhancement on the final CT scan showed differences between the 2 groups. These CT features reflecting inflammation can be useful findings for assessing treatment response.
