Stereodivergent Carbon–Carbon Bond Formation between Iminium and Enolate Intermediates by Synergistic Organocatalysis
Byungjun Kim, Yong‐Jae Kim, Sarah Yunmi Lee
SJR Q1Journal of the American Chemical Society

We report here a stereodivergent method for the Michael addition of aryl acetic acid esters to α,β-unsaturated aldehydes catalyzed by a combination of a chiral pyrrolidine and a chiral Lewis base. This reaction proceeds through a synergistic catalytic cycle which consists of one cycle leading to a chiral iminium electrophile and a second cycle generating a nucleophilic chiral enolate for the construction of a carbon-carbon bond. By varying the combinations of catalyst enantiomers, all four stere

BACKGROUND: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is a primary endovascular modality for acute intracranial large vessel occlusion. However, further treatment, such as rescue stenting, is occasionally necessary for refractory cases. We aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of rescue stenting in first-line MT failure and to identify the clinical factors affecting its clinical outcome. METHODS: A multicenter prospective registry was designed for this study. We enrolled consecutive patients who under

SJR Q1StrokeOA

Background and Purpose— Perfusion-based triage has proven to be effective and safe for selecting patients who are likely to benefit from endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in a late time window. We investigated collateral-based triage for EVT in patients presenting beyond 6 hours, in terms of interrater reliability and efficacy in predicting clinical outcome, in comparison to perfusion-based triage. Methods— One hundred and thirty-two patients who underwent both computed tomographic angiography and

BACKGROUND: It remains controversial whether carotid artery stenting (CAS) is needed in cases of tandem cervical internal carotid artery occlusion (cICAO) and intracranial large vessel occlusion (LVO). OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy and safety of CAS in combination with endovascular thrombectomy (CAS-EVT) in cICAO-LVO patients and to compare its outcomes with those of EVT without CAS (EVT-alone). METHODS: We identified all patients who underwent EVT for tandem cICAO-LVO from the prospect

Prediction of Postoperative Pain and Opioid Consumption Using Intraoperative Surgical Pleth Index After Surgical Incision: An Observational Study

Kangha Jung, Mi Hye Park, Duk Kyung Kim, Byungjun Kim
SJR Q1Journal of Pain ResearchOA

BACKGROUND: We evaluated whether the surgical pleth index (SPI) following surgical incision was related to postoperative pain and opioid consumption. METHODS: This prospective observational study was performed in 50 patients undergoing laparotomy under sevoflurane-based general anesthesia. We recorded the highest SPI during surgical incision. The postoperative pain with a numerical rating scale (NRS) and opioid consumption during postoperative 24 h were compared in patients who showed SPI over 5

Need for rescue treatment and its implication: stent retriever versus contact aspiration thrombectomy
Dong-Hun Kang, Jin Woo Kim, Byung Moon Kim, Byung Moon Kim, Ji Hoe Heo, Hyo Suk Nam, Young Dae Kim, Yang‐Ha Hwang, Yong-Won Kim, Jang‐Hyun Baek, Joonsang Yoo, Dong Joon Kim
SJR Q1Journal of NeuroInterventional SurgeryOA

BACKGROUD: The need for rescue treatment (RT) may differ depending on first-line modality (stent retriever (SR) or contact aspiration (CA)) in endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). We aimed to investigate whether the type of first-line modality in EVT was associated with the need for RT. METHODS: We identified all patients who underwent EVT for anterior circulation large-vessel occlusion from prospectively maintained registries of 17 stroke centers. Patients were dichotomized into SR-first and CA-fir

Endovascular treatment of unruptured ophthalmic artery aneurysms: clinical usefulness of the balloon occlusion test in predicting vision outcomes after coil embolization
Byungjun Kim, Pyoung Jeon, Keonha Kim, Na Yang, Sung Tae Kim, Hyung‐Jin Kim, Hongsik Byun, Kyung-Il Jo
SJR Q1Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery

BACKGROUND: Endovascular coil embolization for ophthalmic artery (OphA) aneurysms has the latent risk of occlusion of the OphA during the procedure, which can lead to loss of vision. We report clinical and angiographic results of endovascular treatment of OphA aneurysms together with the efficacy of the balloon occlusion test (BOT). METHODS: From August 2005 to December 2013, 31 consecutive patients with 33 OphA aneurysms were treated in our institution. The patients were classified into two gro

SJR Q1Neurosurgery

BACKGROUND: The optimal magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) sequence for assessing the aneurysm occlusion state or in-stent flow after endovascular coiling is not well established. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of pointwise encoding time reduction with radial acquisition (PETRA)-MRA in patients who underwent endovascular coiling relative to that of time-of-flight (TOF)-MRA and contrast-enhanced (CE)-MRA. METHODS: We evaluated the aneurysm occlusion state using digital subtra
