15We aimed to evaluate the long-term clinical outcomes and prognostic factors of symptomatic intracranial unruptured vertebrobasilar artery dissection (siu-VBD).
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The incidence and risk factors for recurrence after endovascular treatment of intracranial vertebrobasilar dissecting aneurysms (VBDAs) have not been studied. We aimed to evaluate the incidence and risk factors for recurrence after endovascular treatment of VBDAs. METHODS: A total of 111 patients (mean age, 45±10 years) underwent endovascular treatment for 119 VBDAs (ruptured/unruptured=73:46). Incidence and risk factors for recurrence were retrospectively evaluated. RESU
In a meta-analysis of individual patient data from 5 randomized controlled trials, endovascular treatment (EVT) mainly using a stent retriever achieved successful recanalization in 71.1% of patients suffering from acute stroke due to anterior circulation large artery occlusion (LAO). However, EVT still failed in 28.9% of LAO cases in those 5 successful trials. Stent retriever failure may occur due to anatomical challenges (e.g., a tortuous arterial tree from the aortic arch to a target occlusion
In thyroid nodules with eggshell calcifications but no other calcifications, the findings of a peripheral halo and disruption of the eggshell calcifications may be more useful sonographic predictors of malignancy than hypoechogenicity, microlobulated margins, and a taller-than-wide shape.
Mobile robots offer a typical example of systems with nonholonomic constraints. Several controllers have been proposed in the literature for stabilizing these systems. However, few experimental studies have been reported comparing the characteristics and the performance of these controllers with respect to neglected dynamics, quantization, noise, delays, etc. In this paper, we use a Khepera mobile robot to perform experimental comparison of several control laws. Khepera has two dc motor-powered
The ruptured basilar artery dissections were at high risk for rebleeding, resulting in a grave outcome. Stent placement with or without coiling may be considered to prevent rebleeding in ruptured basilar dissections and judiciously considered in unruptured dissections with signs of progressive brain stem ischemia.
Liquid and gas interactions often produce bubbles that stay for a long time without bursting on the surface, making a dry foam structure. Such long lasting bubbles simulated by the level set method can suffer from a small but steady volume error that accumulates to a visible amount of volume change. We propose to address this problem by using the volume control method. We track the volume change of each connected region, and apply a carefully computed divergence that compensates undesired volume

Ruptured blood blister-like aneurysms (BBAs) of the internal carotid artery (ICA) are potentially dangerous lesions because of the high risk of intraoperative bleeding associated with their wide fragile neck. The authors discuss cases in which BBAs were treated endovascularly during the chronic stage and report a case in which a ruptured BBA of the ICA was successfully treated in the acute phase with stent-assisted coil embolization and a subsequent stent-within-a-stent procedure.
Endovascular treatment (EVT) has become a standard treatment for acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion (LVO) in the anterior circulation. However, whether EVT tools used for intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS)-related LVO are as safe and effective as for use in embolic LVO remains unclear. There have been only a few studies about EVT for ICAS-related LVO, and these studies revealed that mechanical thrombectomy with a stent retriever or contact aspiration was less effective
Sonographically guided core biopsy is a safe and efficient tool for diagnosing the cause of cervical lymphadenopathy in patients without known malignancy and may obviate unnecessary excisional biopsy.
Endovascular treatment becomes a main stream for the treatment of both ruptured and unruptured cerebral aneurysms. Rapid and striking advances in both the techniques and devices make it possible to treat most of cerebral aneurysms endovascularly. Since Higashida et al. first reported the use of a balloon-expandable coronary stent as a scaffold for coiling of basilar artery aneurysm in 1997 [1], several pathfinders have applied balloon-expandable stents to uncoilable lesions such as dissecting, f
The prediction of collisions amongst N rigid objects may be reduced to a series of computations of the time to first contact for all pairs of objects. Simple enclosing bounds and hierarchical partitions of the space-time domain are often used to avoid testing object-pairs that clearly will not collide. When the remaining pairs involve only polyhedra under straight-line translation, the exact computation of the collision time and of the contacts requires only solving for intersections between lin
