15High incidence of acute pulmonary hypertension was observed in each sclerotherapy session without lasting effect on PAP.
We found that insulin and glucose rapidly reversed hemodynamic abnormality in dogs with bupivacaine-induced cardiac depression. This study implies a possible clinical application of insulin treatment for bupivacaine-induced cardiac depression.
Hypothermia reduces neuronal damage after cerebral ischemia and traumatic brain injury, while hyperthermia exacerbates damage from these insults. Previously we have shown that temperature-dependent modulation of excitotoxic neuronal death is mediated in part by temperature-dependent changes in the synaptic release/translocation of Zn(2+). In this study, we hypothesize that brain temperature also affects hypoglycemia-induced neuronal death by modulation of vesicular Zn(2+) release from presynapti
Rapid crystalloid prehydration can affect CSF flow in the lumbar region, reducing cephalic spread of 0.5% isobaric tetracaine and delaying the time to reach the peak sensory level.
BACKGROUND: Interleukin 2 (IL-2) influences the development and severity of pain due to its antinociceptive and immunomodulatory effects. Its production is influenced by the increased expression of c-Cbl (Casitas B-lineage lymphoma proto-oncogene) and Cbl-b E3 ubiquitin ligases. We evaluated the effects on IL-2-mediated changes in c-Cbl and Cbl-b expression in a rat model of chronic neuropathic pain. METHODS: Peripheral neuropathy was induced in adult male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 250-300 g
Background: Orthotopic liver transplantation is widely regarded as the only effective treatment for many acute or chronic end-stage liver diseases. However, the shortage of cadaveric organs is one of the most crucial limitations to the liver transplantation. Recently, in our hospital, living-related liver transplantation (LR LT) cases have remarkably increased during the last two years. Because there are differences in the surgical procedure and graft volume betweerthe cadaveric donor liver tran
Compared with a colloid preload, which may be comparable to the no-preload condition, crystalloid preload prolonged the time to reach the peak sensory block level in isobaric spinal anesthesia, which might have been caused by a significant decrease in CSF pulsatile movement. This attenuated CSF pulsatile movement in the crystalloid preload group might have resulted from significant increases of CSF production.
OBJECTIVE: We compared the effects of two anesthetics, isoflurane and propofol, on the nuclear or cytosolic localization of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), mRNA expression levels of excitatory amino acid carrier 1 (EAAC1), and glutathione (GSH) protein levels in the rat hippocampus. METHODS: Fifty-two adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: a control group, a group that received propofol for 240 minutes (P240), and a group that received isoflur
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of ascorbic acid (AA) on hemostatic function during living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). METHODS: Blood samples from 21 LDLT recipients were taken within 30 minutes after induction and at 120 minutes after reperfusion. Rotational thromboelastography (TEG) and western blot analysis were used to analyze for fibrinolysis and functional changes in c-Cbl and Cbl-b, respectively. TEG test samples were prepared as one of three groups: C group (0.36 mL of blood
We frequently experience the elevation of pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) during ethanol sclerotherapy of arteriovenous malformations. But, the study on the degree of PAP elevation during ethanol sclerotherapy has not yet been made. Therefore, we evaluated the PAP elevation during ethanol sclerotherapy.
