15BACKGROUND: To compare the acute gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) toxicity profiles between intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) in rectal cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation (NCRT) using meta-analysis and pooled-analysis from published articles. METHODS: Literature search was performed in PubMed and EMBASE from inception to March 2017. The odd ratios (ORs) were calculated and random effects model was used fo
Moderate to substantial agreement existed in target volumes for 3-dimensional or intensity-modulated RT determined by radiation oncologists in Korea. According to the estimated consensus contours, the initial CTV encompassed the GTV with margin less than 2.0 cm and the whole peritumoral areas of T2-HSI. The findings of our study propose the need for further studies and modified guidelines.
CCRT using IMRT resulted in excellent local control and survival outcome. Without evidence of survival benefit from phase III randomized trials, NCT should be carefully administered in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who are at high-risk of developing distant metastasis and radiotherapy-related mucositis. The results of ongoing trials are awaited.
Introduction: To evaluate the intra-/interobserver variability of gross target volumes between delineation based on magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography in patients simulated for stereotactic body radiotherapy for primary lung cancer and lung metastasis. Materials and Methods: Twenty-five patients (27 lesions) who underwent computed tomography and magnetic resonance simulation with the MR- 60 Co system (ViewRay) were included in the study. Gross target volumes were delineated on th
Purpose: We aimed to compare the outcomes of adjuvant radiotherapy (ART) and surveillance in patients with grade 2 meningiomas (MNG2) who underwent surgical resection. Materials and Methods: Data from four hospitals, in which patients aged ≥18 years underwent Simpson grade 1-4 surgical resection for newly diagnosed MNG2 between 1998 and 2018, were examined in this multicenter retrospective cohort study. Patients receiving ART with conventional fractionation were compared with those undergoing su
OBJECTIVE: To establish a prognostic model for overall survival prediction in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with external beam radiotherapy (RT) for lymph node (LN) metastasis. METHODS: 105 patients with HCC underwent RT for LN metastasis. The median age, biologically effective RT dose and follow-up period were 60 years, 59 Gy10 and 5.7 months, respectively. 51 patients had symptoms related to LN metastasis. RESULTS: The median survival (MS) was 5.8 months for all patients
Nearly half of the patients with newly diagnosed glioblastomas are aged ≥65 years. Unfortunately, these elderly patients with glioblastoma (GBM-e) demonstrate detrimental survival. However, the optimal treatment for GBM-e after surgery remains controversial. Conventionally fractionated radiotherapy (CFRT) of 60 Gy, hypofractionated radiotherapy (HFRT), temozolomide (TMZ), or a combination of these treatments with or without tumor treating fields can be considered. Although evidence has indicated
BACKGROUND: To identify the pattern of failure and oncological safety of hippocampus (HC)-sparing IMRT (HSRT) in newly diagnosed glioblastoma (GBM) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: of the contralateral HC < 17 Gy. Fifteen patients were unable to achieve the dose-constraints for adequate target coverage. The dose to ipsilateral HC was kept as low as possible. The pattern of failure was investigated, focusing on the area in the vicinity of the spared HC (organ and + 1 cm area). The median HSRT dos
A novel phthalimido-alkanamide derivative demonstrated significant radiosensitization in glioblastoma cells in vitro and in vivo. Further investigation is needed to translate these results to the clinic.
