SJR Q2Cerebrovascular Diseases

BACKGROUND: Although black-blood MRI (BB-MRI) can identify plaques in the cervical carotid arteries, this modality has not been applied in intracranial arteries. We imaged the lumina and walls of stenotic middle cerebral arteries (MCAs) in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients using high-resolution BB-MRI, in order to characterize vulnerable plaques and to determine the diagnostic accuracy of BB-MRI in MCA stenosis. METHODS: Multicontrast (T(1), T(2) and proton density)-weighted BB-MRIs were acq

Vessel-Wall Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Intracranial Atherosclerotic Plaque and Ischemic Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Han Na Lee, Chang‐Woo Ryu, Seong Jong Yun
SJR Q2Frontiers in NeurologyOA

Introduction: Vessel-wall magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been suggested as a valuable tool for assessing intracranial arterial stenosis with additional diagnostic features. However, there is limited conclusive evidence on whether vessel-wall MR imaging of intracranial atherosclerotic plaques provides valuable information for predicting vulnerable lesions. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate which characteristics of intracranial-plaque on vessel-wall MRI

Persistent Falcine Sinus: Is It Really Rare?
Chang‐Woo Ryu
SJR Q1American Journal of NeuroradiologyOA

In contrast to previous reports, falcine sinuses were not rare in the adult population, and most falcine sinuses were not associated with a congenital anomaly or sinus occlusion. Knowledge and recognition of these falcine sinuses are useful and important during the interpretation of brain CTA.

SJR Q3Acta Radiologica

PURPOSE: To demonstrate the diffusion-weighted (DWI) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, and the follow-up MRI findings, of cerebral fat embolism in the acute stage. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The initial DWI and clinical findings of six patients with cerebral fat embolism were retrospectively evaluated. The finding of DWI with a b-value of 1000 s/mm2 (b=1000) was compared with that of DWI with a b-value of 0 s/mm2 (b=0). In three patients who underwent follow-up MRI, the interval change of th

High-Resolution MRI of Intracranial Atherosclerotic Disease
Chang‐Woo Ryu, Hyo Sung Kwak, Geon‐Ho Jahng, Han Na Lee
SJR Q2NeurointerventionOA

Intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) causes up to 10% of all ischemic strokes, and the rate of recurrent vascular ischemic events is very high. Important predictors of vulnerability in atherosclerotic plaques include the degree of stenosis and the underlying plaque morphology. Vascular wall MRI can provide information about wall structures and atherosclerotic plaque components. High-resolution (HR)-MRI in ICAD poses a greater challenge in the neurologic fields, because a high in-plane res

SUMMARY: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a newly designed circular ring compression device that allows safe and effective glue injection during preoperative embolization of high-flow superficial craniofacial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). The device was used in 4 cases of craniofacial AVM with multiple feeding arteries and draining veins. It provided a safe glue injection route as well as effective compression of radiating multiple venous drainage routes.

SJR Q2NeurointerventionOA

PURPOSE: The Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) was devised to quantify the extent of early ischemic changes in the middle cerebral artery territory on brain CT. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies that presented clinical outcomes and baseline ASPECTS in ischemic stroke patients managed with endovascular methods to validate the use of ASPECTS for risk prognostication. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We searched the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochran databases for observat

Gadolinium Enhancement of Atherosclerotic Plaque in the Middle Cerebral Artery: Relation to Symptoms and Degree of Stenosis

SJR Q1American Journal of NeuroradiologyOA

Plaque enhancement was significantly higher in patients with symptomatic plaques and may have been affected by the degree of stenosis. A difference in plaque enhancement according to the degree of stenosis has implications for understanding the development of intracranial atherosclerotic plaques.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive deficit is a common problem in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The aim of this study was to prospectively evaluate if MRI can demonstrate microstructural volume loss and the diffusion anisotropic change in subjects with COPD, compared with cognitively normal (CN) subjects. METHODS: Six subjects with severe COPD, 13 with moderate COPD, and 12 CN subjects underwent isotropic volumetric T1-weighted imaging and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Voxel-b

Extravasation of Intracranial Aneurysm During Computed Tomography Angiography
Chang‐Woo Ryu, Sang Joon Kim, Deok Hee Lee, Dae Chul Suh, Byung Duk Kwun
SJR Q3Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography

Two cases of contrast media extravasation of a ruptured aneurysm during computed tomography angiography (CTA) are described. The contrast media extravasation appeared as a highly attenuated twisted ribbon-like structure originating from the aneurysmal dome, and this mimicked a vascular structure. Because rebleeding of an aneurysm is accompanied by disastrous consequences, it is important to understand the imaging feature of active bleeding on CTA.
